Haha, yeah, when I think of people saying Pearl Jam was never the same after Ten/Vs, sometimes I think to myself, "Pearl Jam was never the same after Oceans."Homeboyd wrote:In reality, the Pearl Jam grunge sound that most people relate to them lasted all of maybe 6 songs...Once through Black. After that and through Vs. it's much more of a classic hard rock sound. WFS is more in the latter vein to my ears.igotworms wrote:Yeah it might be the quality of the version I have but it doesn't sound one iota like Ten era PJ to me. Ed does sustain his notes a bit more like he used to. But overall the main riff sounds nore like The Cult to me. Great song tho.liebzz wrote:I don’t think it sounds at all like Ten.digster wrote:I haven't listened, but don't really know what to expect, especially with the descriptions of the songs I'm hearing. Like, Waiting For Stevie is supposed to be the most Ten-sounding song they've ever written since Ten, but I listened to the 30-second clip, and it just sounds nothing like that to me (that's not a knock on the song one way or the other, it's just that I wonder how wide the gulf for me will be between what I've heard about the songs and what I think they actually are).

We'll see!

Thanks, Thurman. Everyone should take time to read this and the RS interview with Watt. We couldn't ask for a better thing to have happened to Pearl Jam.Thurman Murman wrote:Hard to keep up here so no idea if this has been posted yet:

I can't believe were 4 days away from this. I can't wait for more interviews. I can't wait for that first full listen! I can't wait to read Stip's interpretations of the lyrics.
It's here!

It doesn’t sound anything like Ten to me either. It’s more in lines with I Got Shit if were included on Yield. Not a bad thing at all though. The outro to the song might be the Ten characteristic.digster wrote:I haven't listened, but don't really know what to expect, especially with the descriptions of the songs I'm hearing. The thing that reminds me of the Ten era in WFS is Ed sustaining notes the way he often did on Ten. That and Mike's solo. The riff is also great.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

I felt like I heard a comparison to The Verve and other brit-pop in some review, which actually sounds pretty apt in what I heard. The closest PJ comparison felt like Infallible (kind of). But again, for me, this is all going off the 30-second clip, so who knows. It's just fun and odd sometimes when you read reviews of an album before hearing it, then you wonder what they were talking about.

Ed singing "you can be loved" at the end over Mike's wailing guitar is just about as Ten as it gets for me personally.

WFS is what I thought Infallible was going to sound like after hearing that early sound check clip...digster wrote:I felt like I heard a comparison to The Verve and other brit-pop in some review, which actually sounds pretty apt in what I heard. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the whole thing. I'm definitely more curious about it now than I was if it was just trying to ape a Ten sound.

WFS feels like what In Hiding would have turned into if it was written in 1992. Doesn’t sound like Ten but it has some of those sensibilities.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Indeed. And I happen to have Friday off, so I'll have no hesitations about giving this three or four listens.Ms Harmless wrote:"new music Friday" is great because it's really Thursday midnight, which means tomorrow I'll be able to say this comes out the day after tomorrow

As someone who has collected bootlegs forever, the listening party recording(s) are much higher than some of the old school bootlegs that I've heard over the years haha.
