I think this is where I’m at. Definitely not as big a Gigaton fan as most. I also think this album will sound great listening to it right after avocado.brisk wrote:People overly gushing atm, probably because it's the first semi decent thing they have donde since Avocado.

I would agree with the No Code into Yield comparison, when comparing DM to Gigaton.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Gotcha. Makes sense. Thanks for sharing; that validates my decision for myself to not listen to the phone recordings as I may end up disappointing myself with what I conjure up the song to be in my mind. Granted, I am doing that to some extent with the 30 second clips too, but for the parts that are not therestip wrote:Neither? I suppose more good then bad. You are doing a lot of the heavy lifting with that phone recording, and so then to actually hear the songs you realize how much wasn't there for you to hear. Waiting for Stevie opened up for me in a big way even in those 30 seconds, for instance. But I think what i'm envisioning for react/respond in my head may have just been a little cooler. But you're also at the mercy of what 30 seconds those songs are from. The React/Respond clip is not from my favorite part of the song

the run of mid tempo anthems in the middle of the record were the moments that felt the least impactful to me based on the phone leak, and the clips brought those to life in particular.

It's a risk. I LIKE that though, since it's like you get to discover the song for the first time twice.Fattie_Vedder wrote:Gotcha. Makes sense. I’m making the same assumptions/early conclusions too. I love gogaton, but I think I will like this one more. I need to be in a certain mood to listen to gigaton, and for me it’s more of a listen to the whole album kind of thing than just pick a song or two from it.Arthur Morgan wrote:Buby wrote:TBH all the gushing has me all kinds of excited. Where would DM land for a guy who believes Gigaton was their best since Binaural?
Asking for a friend.
I liked Gigaton. There are really great songs on it. DOTC and QE are god tier PJ songs to me and although I’m not sure if there is a single song better than those two, my initial gut is this album is simply better. There is an energy in the recording. The song structures are not as predictable. There are effects that sound a little U2 and Duran, Duran-ish at times. But it’s a PJ record. It’s definitely captures the live energy. And the vinyl record sounded very balanced to my ears.
Overall it’s just a better album.
Early assessment, but I suspect I’ll feel that, Gigaton was the perfect album for me at the time with what was going on in the world, and it was the album I needed then. Dark Matter will be the album that I need now.

Yes, seeing one surprisingly sold out show tomorrow. Definitely holding out. I gave in to listening to the WFS 30 second clip and it had me blown away already.stip wrote:are you seeing one of the shows tomorrow F_V? If so I would certainly wait at this point

the real classical Pearl Jam power moments are obviously not done justice in the phone recording.

I'm still resisting the phone leaks. Still resisting the sky clips. Just here patting myself on the back publicly to further steel my will.

You hit the nail in the head. The "vinyl sounding very balanced" is something I care about deeply.
My 10C vinyl hasn't moved an inch since the label was created like 12 days ago.
Catching this tomorrow in the movie theatre for sure though.

No I don’t have the vinyl. Same here waiting on 10c vinyl no to ship. Just went to my local record store and listened to the album which I assumed was the vinyl but whatever it was it sounded good.

Going to the movie theater tomorrow, but caved in and listened to the 30 seconds previews. Not that excited based on them, but I have a history of initially hating some of my favorite records based on samples, so not too bothered. Just happy seeing everyone absolutely hyped! Lurker since the Gigaton rollout before the pandemic hit (was the record playing on the car the last time I drove around before lockdown in my city) and really happy being a part of this once more.

Mine hasn’t budged either. Disappointing, but that’s kind of the expectation of all things 10c these days huh?
I would agree that DoTC is god tier. Not QE tho. It’s solid, but not great (to me).
Having only heard snippets of the new tracks, I already get the sense that this will be a stronger record overall. Got has 3 great songs in my view. Dance, WeS, Alright. 7 and SBWM are quite enjoyable. But after that, it’s truly slim pickins.
