You seem quite upset about this dad thing. Why is it an issue that someone thinks Wilco isn't a band that a lot of 20 year olds listen too? I'm not saying the original statement isn't a gross generalisation cause obviously it is, but it doesn't seem like that big a shock that someone might think that about the Wilco fanbase.

Oh, sorry, totally not upset. Just questioning what dad rock is. I mean, I get it, yeah, but it's just an odd category of rock music for me. I mean I guess it's insanely broad.
So is all music, except that being made by younguns dad rock? Is Sonic Youth now dad rock? I guess dad rock is meant to imply that it's safe, predictable, sterile, boring white guy music? Maybe just a step above muzak?

Perhaps if we don't even delve in to the method of defining dad rock its existence will cease.

Nothing to apologise for.
I dare say it's just to distinguish the music of a previous generation from the current but it is a awful term and it probably implies some degree of musical conservatism. Mind you I guess it's no different to me in the 90's referring to Dire Straits, Van Morrison or any of that sort of thing as dad rock.

I have. It's fairly heterogeneous. At least the show I went to.
Yeah. When I saw them in August there were all sorts of different people there. From old dudes without hair to annoying teenage girls and everything in between.

I'd say that's the case. Mike Omalley wore a Son Volt shirt a few times on that awful show he was one(not GUTS) and they also had John Hiatt as a guest star when his character has a near death experience and he's trying to do all this cool stuff. Seems like his sorta music.
I've heard alot of people call Wilco dad rock and while I think it's dumb I think it stems from a perception that a band has settled into a certain way of doing things, the way alot of guys do when they become dads, more than the actual style of music.
