Is it the general consensus that the metal door leak was sanctioned by them and intentionally released?Ms Harmless wrote:it's just occurred to me that PJ might have done the record store listens to encourage the bootlegs

no confirmation, but these were much closer to release so it's possibleHatfield wrote:Is it the general consensus that the metal door leak was sanctioned by them and intentionally released?Ms Harmless wrote:it's just occurred to me that PJ might have done the record store listens to encourage the bootlegs

But in all seriousness if they are going for a little of that nostalgic feeling, there was nothing better than going through. Vitalogy and No Code for the first time

Europeans already complaining about sound issues at the movie theater events. God damnit. It's probably a crapshoot if your theater is gonna have good sound

this is exactly me.Release_Me wrote:I've had the bluestate recording on repeat and I think it's very listenable as phone recordings go. Honestly, as someone who really liked Gigaton and was thrilled to have it as the soundtrack of the pandemic, I think DM is significantly the better album. I have a sentimental attachment to Gigaton and appreciate how it got me through that time in my life, but DM just has the better songs overall, imo. Of course, I still await a good audio quality listen, but I don't see that changing my mind. I was happy with Gigaton but I'm euphoric after listening to DM.

I'll wait till Friday if I have to. Headphones at home is the ideal scenario for me. No distractions.

My family had 2 options:
A - encourage me to go to the movies by myself
B - sit around and listen to me talk about Pearl Jam for another evening
They chose option A in a heartbeat.

Man...that yield trilogy is just simply fantastic.
I will find out tonight what the DM run feels like.

Won't Tell > Upper Hand > Waiting for Stevie
I can confidently say they haven't had a three-song stretch this good since... Yield?
And I feel that way off a phone recording.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Hatfield wrote:What a wonderful connection to that record. What Gigaton songs have maintained their quality for you? Take the Long Way and the last 2 tracks are the only songs I don't reach for.DDWJMUVW wrote:Though spring 2020 was not a tough time in my life (nothing close to it), I will always associate Gig with the beginning of COVID and the sort of apocalyptic vibe I felt living in a big city at the time. It was truly surreal. Escaping the city on the weekends for the countryside, running in my neighborhood past closed businesses after working from home each day, walking/scootering (ha - lame) the national mall and being one of only a few people out (especially early on), while listening to those tracks, will cement Gigaton's potency in terms of being a very memorable record for me. But with the passage of time, a more balanced assessment of the tracks has bubbled to the surface and there are only a handful I listen to with any regularity.Release_Me wrote:I've had the bluestate recording on repeat and I think it's very listenable as phone recordings go. Here's hoping DM contains more in the way of sustainable quality. Looking forward to my theater experience at 8pm!
WES, Dance, Alright, and Seven probably stand as the tracks I reach for from Gig. I LOVE the end of retrograde, and it was oft played at the time, but the first few minutes now just seems to routine to me.
TTLW and River Cross were the biggest fallers for me. Their stock was high in the very early going, and I just never listen to them now.

Yeah I cracked up when I saw yours. But seriously, this 3 song run is like the hike to Tis-sa-ack (Half Dome) - it just keeps upping the ante and rewarding you more.evenslow wrote:haha rockpusher just saw your post. great minds...

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
I really really like Gigaton but there's a couple issues I have with it. The album ending with essentially 3 slow songs in a row being the biggest. Comes Then Goes, Retrograde and River Cross are a slog all back to back. I would ditch the last 2 and just end the album on Comes Then Goes.
