Something Special is a fine song. The band plays great on it and it's heartfelt—just doesn't belong on this album. It's very odd.

Especially as Ed wrote it with Josh, rather than an actual band member, it feels like something that should’ve been held over for a future solo record (or standalone single).

• Something Special is a fine song. The band plays great on it and it's heartfelt—just doesn't belong on this album. It's very odd. I'd prefer a re-worked Of the Earth here or something.
• Setting Sun is wonderful. Definitely a Stone lick/riff driving this. It's a beautiful way to end the album.

Am I wrong in saying that it seems as though not every theater received the atmos mix?

Have a recording that's definitely louder than the original, not yet sure if it's clearer...
spent a few seconds putting some additional EQ and mastering plugins on it just to piss off the hater(s)

I agree. I liked it fine on it's own but it really works well re-sets things for the close of the album.

It was! Because the sound quality of the songs after was so horrible, I started questioning if maybe that had been unintentional. There was no surround sound at my showing. Could the warbled intro be an effect of the theatre syphoning a Dolby mix through screen speakers only?

I thought it definitely sounded intentional, Jeff talked something about going down another dimension or something like that, didn't he? Just think it was a weird, experimental tongue in cheek way of introducing the record

My buddy said the same. He’s a huge Pearl Jam fan but otherwise a pretty conventional white dad music fan — Wilco, KoL, etc. Said Ed’s lyrics are the worst part.

I don't mean that the lyrics are bad. They are melancholy and mournful, and they made me legitimately feel bad for Eddie if these are the emotions he's feeling.
