Does anybody have any idea of what Jeff did on this album? Did he do anything other than the intro for the movie theater?

he wrote parts for at least one song (one was based on a dream he had, can't remember which)

Higgs, do you like that Niecy Blues album? It was a latecoming favorite of mine last year.

Literally listened to it for the first time today. I'm doing a late 2023 albums catch up, this was on today's menu.

I actually enjoyed it a lot and it has moved onto my "workday certified" playlist.

So I’ve heard it (new album) in various places a couple times and I think the first two songs have the longest potential staying power. I could see myself still rocking out to these a few years from now.

Mike borrowed the riff from Five to One by the Doors... but I still love it

Yes, Watt said that Jeff wrote the main riff of DM, and Running was called Big Sandy punk when they first played it.

In the Kyle Meredith interview Stone said 'Scared of Fear' and 'Upper Hand' started with his riffs and ideas.

‘Won’t Tell’ is like Pearl Jam refracted through the Cure or U2.

It’s really special. Jeff wrote that song. He told me he had a dream about Joni Mitchell, and maybe even Neil Young was there. She said something about the lyric ‘waiting for your message to come. Can you heal? Can you feel the chains in my heart?’ Then Ed took all of that and we reinterpreted the whole thing. It evolved quite a bit from where Jeff had it, but we knew that lyric and we knew the spirit of it. We started going down the path of those 16th notes, with Matt playing that hi-hat groove that’s reminiscent of the Cure or U2 where you groove into a beat and the drums become a little bit more of a backbeat. Ed’s vocal is just soaring. It’s gorgeous. It’s one of those songs that’s easy to play. It kind of plays itself. It really does have a different quality to it. It’s a real amalgamation of, being inspired by a dream, starting with a rudimentary arrangement and then us taking it and completing it. It was really fun to do.

It's not as though they needed Stock, Aitken & Waterman, or Desmond Child, because they were strung out, cynical, and creatively fried.

Those guys didn't write songs for the band out of some sense of desperate need; they wrote songs with the band out of what seems like a naturally organic sense of communal joy.

We’re in the home stretch. What can you tell us about ‘Got To Give?’

That’s an Ed song. It definitely has kind of a Who vibe, and it rocks. I have a little guitar lead in there that I really like a lot — a fun, melodic thing that happens at the end of the bridge. I’m looking forward to playing this song live.

Those guys didn't write songs for the band out of some sense of desperate need; they wrote songs with the band out of what seems like a naturally organic sense of communal joy.

agreed, just a bunch of friends in a room, listening to each other, bouncing ideas off each other... still branded Pearl Jam; I think for the first time in a while it feels like maybe they didn't give their first and best ideas away to side projects because "Ed wasn't feeling them"; if they had an idea, Watt got them to work on it

I agree. I have no issues with Watt and Klinghoffer contributing.
