Re: Brooklyn 2
I'm glad DcT made it in. Fantastic show. Definitely one of the best ones I've been to. I am not sure I ever saw the band as into what they were doing. everything sounded really good there, for the most part.
A few notes
New songs: This album plays really well live. Pendulum is a super cool opener. MYM was probably the weakest of the new songs live. I haven't listened to the wrigley version of L-bolt in so long that I forgot how killer that outro solo was. Future days was suprisingly good.
The guitars have a MUCH sharper edge to them then past shows.
Some EXCELLENT extended versions of even flow, immortality (this was great), black, alive, porch, and betterman.
Once was about as good as I've heard it at a show. Same for Go.
Eddie sounded super good in the first encore. He was great throughout.
All Those Yesterdays actually seemed like it was the song that went over the least with the crowd. I'm not sure I had ever gotten it live, so that was a treat.
Eddie butchered the first half of UK, but it recovered well and ended up being really good--I wish it had that energy on the record.
It's not one of my favorite songs but In Hiding is almost always great live and tonight was no different.
Really everything sounded good and the band had a ridiculous level of commitment tonight. Far more than in recent tours. I can't believe these fuckers are 50.
Two side things
1. I went tonight with a friend who likes pearl jam but is not a die hard (doesn't own all the albums, etc). He had never seen them. He actually just saw The National (his favorite band) at Barclay's a few weeks ago. He said tonight's show exceeded his high expectations and was probably the best concert he was ever at. It was also interesting watching with someone who doesn't know all the rituals. He thought they were great. And every time the audience sang a bit his face lit up. He also thought even flow was great, and he had commented to me earlier how he had grown tired of the song.
2. I got to meet Dime tonight. He's a super nice guy, and pretty good looking. And gentlemen, I didn't see a ring....

I did. I planned to say more but basically everything sounded really good, the guitars sounded pretty savage and a lot of great extended versions of song. Betterman had a fantastic tag, and the extended immortality was really good.

I've always been a big fan of Matt getting to cut loose a little in the middle of that song and I recall the crowd going bananas for it at the two 2006 tour shows I saw.

Man I thought last night was amazing as it was my first show but tonight was so much better. Phenomenal show. My friend didn't know any of the songs at first (I was disappointed he missed last night as he would have known more) but around Once the show heated up and never let up. Once on was phenomenal...like seriously amazing.
I was so excited I got to hear Rats. It's one of my favorites from Vs. And Blood!! I was shocked he did that one!
And Once, Go, and Last Exit all in one show = !!

I had the pleasure of meeting our curator Stip and it was so cool to finally meet him. Those moments and chats make a trip worthwhile. Thanks for hanging out fella. ( he's got a lovely senatorial presence but mad humble and puts you at ease.)
Two things, I hope he noticed. Something really strange is happening during infallible. Eds voice is huge all night, then for that song it sounds like a young boy singinging through a tube. Wrong. That's the only way I can describe it.
Second, the pocket. As a functioning band, Pj are in it right now. The only flaws were on Ed occasionally screwing up which he didn't much compared to last night. They're so well oiled and hard right now.
Overall incredibly good show.
They sound better now than they deserve to for men their age.
Best bit?
Even flow started and i managed to get to the bar, get two beers, chat to the girl at the counter (cos I had a funny accent apparently) and get back to my seat, before Even flow had ended. That's gotta be a record for the pb song?
And sorry Stip, but he was happy like a mofo and clapping at the end of even flow like it was his first time! I saw. Don't deny. Own that shit.

Just gonna say it. Infallible is awful. It's kills the whole energy of the set and the band have a hard and long fight getting it back afterwards.
If you love it, fine. Fair play.
It's a one track death trap at a gig though.

Wash.
It wasn't the rarity factor or that I'd never heard it live.
It was just perfect. Ed sounded huge and monstrous and determined.
I got Oceans and Wash on one trip. (And an amazing release and two brilliant shows)
I can retire now.

I can imagine Infallible being a pretty trudgy song to get through live compared to some of the other new ones

congrats to everyone who got to see pearl jam live..im pleased with their views and comments that reinforce something we have been discussing here since...2006?
PJ is a great great live band. If not the best rock band out there. Period.

I'd admit it proudly!

I did not have tickets to night 1,and I figured with the kids, the expense, and everything else I'll just seem them once and let it go this tour.
That was a mistake.

Re: Brooklyn 2
I didn't really hear Dime's issue's with infallbile. At least in terms of quality. Eddie wasn't hitting those super high notes though. He sang all of the choruses in the same key as the first one. I thought people were into it, although maybe that was just me. It was hardly a song-redefining version, but it was still good.
MYM was the weakest of the new songs. I think the speed/intensity of it will be hard for eddie live unless he's really concentrating. The crowd ate up the MIND YOUR MANNERS part. There wasn't interaction on the outro, and the band was setting it up only singing every other lyric 'go to heaven.....how you like your....'
the guitars had some serious bite to them in that song though. It sounded much closer to mike's vingette than the studio
