The atmospheric opening is so good.
Is that Stone on the guitar solo? I loved that too.
Fortunately, I was alone for my first listen. That outro had me dancing around the weight room like a fool!

Really like the way Eddie sings "Something that I never had was the upper hand", just before the outro.

I think it would be cool if they opened a show with this song, the drawn out moody beginning against low lighting. Then it kicks into high gear towards end.

Agree with the outro critique in here. Song would be a lot stronger if the outro didn't get huge out of no where.

Re: Upper Hand
This is the most moving piece of music on an album full of them.
That little arpeggiated guitar line during the "I hope the people are smiling" part is really tasty.

The one I was immediately mesmerised by on the first listen of the phone recording. Phenomenal song. 5 stars.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Re: Upper Hand
Still thinking they didn't need to do a big upbeat outro. Wish this sing stayed in the spacey bluesy territory for another ten minutes.
Still incredible song

I don't think this is an overreaction but this song has a place in my top 10 Pearl Jam songs of all time. Of course I'll have to hear it live first but I imagine it will be incredible.

What do we think this is about?
When he’s saying “I hope the people are smiling”, “I apologise for the timing”

The song to me anppwars to be about the ending of something and feeling a little regret about it. Take that for what it’s worth

I think this has moved to my second favorite song on the album. I love the buildup to the huge outro. This is an incredible song. Would be cool as an opener or a set 2 opener. Hope I get to hear it in Baltimore this tour.
