Yes, thisdad wrote:I may just be making this up in my head, but the FLAC files are compressed as well. So when they're converted to .wav I imagine that number goes up.BootsToAsses wrote:How odd, I've extracted the album and it's in my music folder still showing as 361mb.bluestate wrote:I believe that's the size of the compressed RAR file (I'm seeing 344 MB)BootsToAsses wrote:A kind soul just hit me up with the FLAC link but it says the file is 361mb.bluestate wrote:From what I can tell, this does appear to be the FLAC rip... even though, still sausage city, at least it's not redlining like yesterday's rip.
Also, yesterday's file was 488 MB, today's file is 733 MB.
After converting flac to wav and rendering all tracks together into 1 full tracklist wav, that's where my 488 vs 733 comparison is coming from

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
Looking at the files sizes some of you are tossing around, perhaps you're getting the 24-bit 48kHz version from Qobuz?
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Wild how in the song threads people are like, "I like this, but it's not one of my favorites on the album: 4.5 stars."

Yeah with a very minimum of 3 5 stars songs but could be more a 4.5 is in the middle or could be as low as 9th place.Jaeti wrote:Wild how in the song threads people are like, "I like this, but it's not one of my favorites on the album: 4.5 stars."

Usually the hi-res Qobuz editions are over 1gb in size.

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
I'm not used to so much positivity on a Pearl Jam album with you.
I came back from my slumber just to say that.
Also, hi
Edit:
By the way, this is my take on the album:
Listening more calmly here, after absorbing the songs more, I would say:
Scared of Fear: The song is okay, catchy chorus, it's good, but nothing wonderful. Rating 6.
React/Respond: I loved this song, I can see Eddie from Vitalogy singing this song. One of my favorite choruses from them in a long time. Rating 9.
Wreckage: This song is perfect. Rating 10.
Dark Matter: This song is perfect. Rating 10.
Won't Tell: It's good, I can't explain, it has a more 'adult' feel, reminds me a bit of U2 for some reason, but has a very good chorus. Rating 7.
Upper Hand: Best song on the album. It gives me feelings of Present Tense, Nothing as it Seems, it's nostalgic and new at the same time. Rating 11.
Waiting For Stevie: It's good, one of the best other tracks on the album, and one of the best solos by Mike, and the lyrics are very good, also has a nostalgic feel. Rating 8.
Running: Basic, a standard punkish song that PJ has on all albums, but made with excelency. It's the Supersonic they were trying to record since... I don't know, Blood maybe? Rating 7
Something Special: Cute, but nothing too wow. Rating 6.
Got to Give: Didn't really get the hype, loved the intro, it kind of does the same thing as Wreckage, Won't Tell, and Waiting For Stevie, but with less excellence. But can't deny that its ending is very good, and Eddie is at his best. Rating 7.
Setting Sun: Beautiful song, a perfect closer for the album. Rating 8.
I think that the whole "we need to have an epic coda" in all mid tempo songs kinda gets annoying in subsequent listens. And I find the lack of memorable guitar riffs disturbing.
By anywho, it's a good album. I still prefere Gigaton over it, though

As for file size, not so with 24/48.

I just remember purchasing Gigaton from Qobuz and it was over 1gb.

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
The interlude between WFS and Running really deserves its own track. Why did Eddie, Watt, and and the Pearl Jams decide to tack this onto the end of the WFS track? Is it related to WFS? Seems like a separate track would have been the better decision. And then to have that jarring cut into Running just sort of ruins the vibe that it starts to create.Ms Harmless wrote:that placement is bizarre and I can't decide if I like ithlniv wrote:I miss crying baby

I've had the same complaint....not a big deal but would have prefered it as its own track.hlniv wrote:The interlude between WFS and Running really deserves its own track.
