It's comforting to have a favorite band for so long that for 30+ years has given you some great music.

Agreed. This album is like having my best friend move away 25 years ago. We call/write, and are able to enjoy the relationship (sometimes immensely), but I never thought I would actually see him again and experience what made the original relationship so special.

And then he just walked into the room.

Something else I was thinking about regarding the lyrics since the last post that I wanna get down before my brain moves on:

The spontaneity of being in the room with the fellas and doing quick vocal passes harkens back to the stories we've heard about Ed writing Release or Oceans. Immediate, raw, subconscious...genuine.

There's also little to no pretense in the lyrics here, which...ya know, much as I was bowled over by Bob Dylan while in college, sitting baked out of my skull, in wonderment at the wordplay, there's something I appreciate so much more, especially as I get older, about the effectiveness of emotional directness.

Going through a difficult relationship, partners mental state, having a son, generally being in quite an emotional state, but man this album really hits me. Loads of great lyrics. Wreckage, scared of fear, upper hand, something special, setting sun. Been a long time (maybe hearing Black) since I’ve genuinely felt close to tears because of the music.

Ditto. Like I said to the woman a few seats down from me tues night: every experience at this point is massive icing on the cake. I don’t think it ever imagined this journey would still be going, especially with the gusto and quality we see right now. Gosh if wottman can get another one out of them before it’s over….

Just listened to Wreckage for the first time. I'm a drummer and the drums sound fine to me. On the 2006 tour, Matt often used the Mike Bordin (Faith No More) Yamaha signature snare drum - a copper shell. Matt, in recent years especially, gravitates more towards darker sounding snare drums, such as copper.

But it doesn't even sound like copper. It just sounds like a Linn drum through a PA.

I'd be bold and say that DOTC is perhaps their best song since Riot Act.
