Changed my vote from 2 stars to 3. This is actually not a bad song at all. It is my least favorite on the album but it took a few listens to grow and appreciate it more.

No, they have both an edited version, and an explicit version.

No, it's already been noted by others on here:

This is the song, and I agree the vocal melody sounds similar.

Fattie_Vedder wrote:Do you think Ed watched Moneyball and was so moved by Brad’s performance that he thought to himself what if i freaky fridayed the situation?

This is a nice melody that could have sounded great if it weren’t for bad production and the fact that it’s pseudo stolen. And the lovely sentiment is marred by the fact that it seems taken from an original song in a movie. Can we agree that Ed is the weak link of this band now and shouldn’t be the leader anymore? What is happening right now? Am I overreacting?

I really like this one. I love Mike's guitar tone at the end and the thick bass throughout.

I love this song. If I had two daughters and not two sons I'd love it even more.

I find myself enjoying their songs that sound like they come out of the mouths of 50 year olds I suppose.

This and Wreckage have hit big for me so far.

Looks like the layered vocal intro they used on the instrumental version of DM is actually Ed's backup vocals from SS exactly at 1:18.
Pretty neat. Am I the last one to figure this out?

This one along with Won't Tell benefited greatly when I finally listened to a proper version with headphones
doing so brought out so much more of the dynamics

Love the tone on the intro guitar with the studio chatter in the background

I feared intially this would just be another Future Days or The Halves
Thankfully it's much better than both of those songs

This is another song that's revealing itself with each and every listen and I'm starting to think there's more here than meets the eye

On the surface this may come across as just some sappy filler song about Ed's daughters.
However, when you look at the other themes on this record that seem to be about broken relationships and heartbreak this one feels deliberate in it's placement and it's meaning

While clearly not a song about a damaged broken relationship, I feel there is a bit of a bittersweet lament here
Something Special is about a parent who is now watching the ones he used to hold, become adults.

The author is now realizing that his time with them is limited, and pretty soon they will be leaving the nest to head out into the world to start there own lives
His heart aches and breaks, but he realizes he's done all he can as a father, and as a parent and is proud of them
However, coupled with pride is an underlining sadness as he realizes the rest of the lessons will be taught by the big cruel world waiting outside.
He knows there will be challenges ahead and although there's not much he can do from here on out, he promises them that he'll always be there for them when they need him.

As a parent myself, I can totally relate to this song and these feelings
It actually hits me just as hard lyrically as Scared of Fear, Setting Sun, Upper Hand and Won't tell; which are hitting home for me right now for other reasons.

The lyrics are nice but they would feel a bit more impactful if delivered by just about anyone else. A rich, alcoholic chode singing "life can be hard but you got this!" is like... yeah, righto.

I'm not going to name drop here, but I have a good friend of mine who I've known forever, and she had a famous father
I know sometimes it can be easy to focus on the whole money angle , however, when your father is famous it can present some real challenges.
Especially, when it comes to the expectations that people place on you expecting you to follow in your father's footsteps...or their disappointment in you when you choose not to.
It's not as easy a life as one would expect.
