It was like the best of old school Ed with the maturity of all that's good about old age Ed. I was really impressed.

YES!! Finally I can feel a little less like an idiot for thinking that their maturity is adding something great live. So many people on here have been such hardasses about not seeing that.

It's not a contest but I think despite the strange slump in the middle, night one had the edge over last night. None of my friends agree with me so I guess it's about song preferences, but either way everyone's dead right about the maturity adding to experience. It's like they found a new determination with these new songs, all of which I think were played pretty perfectly. The only screw ups(and they were minor when they happened other than UK) were with older songs. Which is funny.

And to whoever mentioned the on screen footage, man I would have loved a copy of that footage. It was excellent! There are vids out there shot directly from the screen ill try find some.

Here's a few non-music-related observations from last night that I thought were interesting. I was near the front row on Stone's side of the stage. Just to the right of us, sitting in the front section of the stands, were Ed's wife and oldest daughter. At one point, when Ed pointed over there and said "my daughter is here tonight", everyone started looking and pointing at her. She must've immediately felt very uncomfortable from all the attention. It looked like she was trying to hide behind her mom and within minutes her mom walked her backstage and then returned to her seat. I thought that was really sad. I don't know why but I just kept thinking about that for the rest of the night and it made me sad. But... to cheer myself up, I would just take a gander at Ms. McCormick. She is pretty smokin' hot!

Right in front of Jill & Olivia, there were 5 or so dudes all dressed in black and at least one of them looked very recognizable. They were all playing air guitar and just singing at the top of their lungs to every song. It was awesome! Then I finally realized who the one guy was when he got up to go backstage. Javier Bardem from No Country for Old Men. He had an old school PJ hat on for good measure. Dude is a serious PJ fanboi! And he's also an absolute beast of a man... Anyway, for the record, I was also paying close attention to what was happening on the stage as well

What's funny is that right next to me there was this guy who looked just like your avatar and I thought "I wonder if that's dct?" He was jumping around and singing at the top of his lungs to every song and I thought "I have to talk to this guy". But when they started playing Sirens he just stood there looking bored and he never regained his initial enthusiasm. Then I realized "Nope, no way is that dct. Just some stupid hipster".

Just watched All Those Yesterdays on youtube. Can Ed stop with the creepy voice? Tooniiiiighhhttttt.... It's cool after the first verse but somehow doesn't work as well as I imagined.

My only complaints on sloppiness was the lyric flub on Unthought Known and that the first verse on Last Exit seemed completely out of sync from the band.

Sorry...also, Yellow Moon was f'in fantastic. After seeing it live probably creeps up to my second favorite song on the new album after Pendulum.

Other than that the minor lyrics flubs by Ed were the only night two mistakes and I think the production of night two went of better. Night one had fuck ups during sirens twice and Ed freaked out in one of the encores about something, possibly a fight or the poor quality of his new bottle of wine. He poured it all over the stage and ripped his ear piece out.

Anyone know what caused that? I just assumed someone gave him Merlot.

Notables:

Pendulum -> Wash: was spot on, contrary to other proposed characterizations. If you were in GA and this sounded off, it could be that GA may be too close for quality arena sound, or it took a little for the soundboard guys to get it together. Wash. WASH.

MYM: fine, but yes in retrospect I see its limits without some heavier guitar effect this song doesn't go as far live as it could

Hail, Hail: was played and was rocking. positive indicator when in 2013 this is early in the setlist

Even Flow: Surprisingly delightful. Matt's kick drum had a circular light on it that light up during his ending drum solo

Infallible: Has some moderately interesting structural things going on, interesting to watch live and the crowd's reactions

Present Tense -> Rats: enter the total mindfuck setlist zone. Rats keeps sounding better and better.

Immortality: Was... fucking... AWESOME. Ed DID NOT SCREW UP THE LYRICS!!!! It was fully-well-sung, guitar solos were intense. Quality immortality. Quality, Quality Quality.

SOLAT: Slamming into those first few chords right after immortality the entire place jumped about 2 feet in the air.

Once: Also keeps sounding better and better these days

Betterman (live): Was actually a good version of betterman. No phoning it in - the crowd sang too, but not so much that Ed totally yielded the song to them. Very spirited save it for later tag.

Footsteps: Ed on harmonica. In no hurry. Sound quality was high. Tempo was nice and steady.

All Those Yesterdays: The haters need to recall that PJ barely play this song; I thought it sounded pretty damn good given that this was like the 5th time in 10 years it was played. Ed's voice was on. When it started you could tell that Stone was loving it. Ed did the "Stop - Stop" thing. Great placement in the setlist. Someone got up crowdsurfing in the pit front and center during this song... hilarious. Of all songs, we got crowd surfing during this one. It was brief, like a 3 feet trickle right to left in front of Ed - at one point Ed says to someone down front "look out behind you", and then the guy gets down, just in time for the lyirc "so no one catches you, drifting off and doing all those things that, we all do". timely. awesome.

Future Days: I am and continue to be part of the hate on this at Wrigley contingent. HOWEVER, the keyboard effect that Boom is using is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the twinkle twinkle Little Star Casio keyboard sound that BOB used. Boom is using a warm B3-ish tremolo sound and with the rest of the band's mostly just acoustic sounds, the sound is mellow and not sprinkling twinkling like BOB. Completely exceeded expectations. This and the other LB songs have def come a long way since Wrigley.

DTE: After Future Days, Ed said something to the effect of, "Future Days, Yesterdays... it's evolution baby". Stone's solo was super crisp.

Porch: The lights are swinging ed's standing on the light people are going nuts. one of the better versions of this lately.

Whipping -> Blood: If you cannot enjoy this, you cannot enjoy anything

Leaving Here: Ed charmingly is trying to remember the intro chords before they kick into it. He kind of played the wrong chords in the first verse around but it was not atonal - whatever he played was still in the correct key so it sounded fine . Great fun on this - at the trading solos part - Jeff has a couple slick basslines. Crowd reacted well to Matt Cameron's solo fills.

Black: And here were are. It is that time. Mike was in this to win it. Don't recall any organ soloing, just lots of Mike, lots of quality Mike. Very passionate We Belong Together at the end.

Alive: Ed's doing his stand on the corners of the stage thing. Mike runs up into the side stage area like 30 rows deep and back. Bedlam

Alive -> RITFW: The ceiling melted and for a second we were all at a PJ show where everyone emoted

YL: Star Spangled ending. Band is very happy.

Side notes: Except for the 20% of the ten club ticket holders that are unable to watch a live concert without raping their cellphone for the entirety of the show, and the high volume of fat and ugly people; it was a great crowd. Ed made numerous references during the show to liking NYC and the Northeast US. Something at one point about how when the band was going through tough times and was nearly broken, the NE was always there for them. Later, something about having lots of friends in the house, and everyone there was making them look very good in front of their friends. The crowd was totally into it tonight. The vibe from the outset was great. The band was totally comfortable. The sound quality was great. I think the effect of PJ20 has been that way more of the mid-range fans are more engaged, and a lot of people who might have been wishy washy into PJ are now just straight up in to PJ. A lot of the less popular songs were surprisingly well known by members of the crowd. It looks like since PJ20, PJ has gotten craploads of exposure and more people are showing up smiles in hand and the band have reciprocated. I think the band knows the stakes are higher, or at least were for this show, given the increased exposure, and they have stepped up their intensity to match. A lot of focus from Ed tonight. Great to see him wanting it. Maybe having his wife and daughter there left him free not to be preoccupied. Had a hometown show kind of feel. Ed closed saying "see you all next year". Hopefully that is true.

Eddie did try to get the SA evolution soccer chant thing going a few times. We weren't biting. the band keeps on playing the music for the 'admire me' part and having to loop it as Eddie keeps pleading 'one more try'

Really? From where I was it seemed like everybody was doing this VERY loudly. I heard it ringing through the building, it didn't seem like nobody was biting

Also, Future Days was not bad live but not exciting, but it was worth it for the "We had yesterdays, then future days....it's Evolution" or whatever, I went crazy for that because I really wanted to hear the song again with the awesome crowd.

Glad I didn't imagine that. My pal hasn't seen Pj in ten years and all he wanted was lowlight.
He didn't enjoy yellow moon as a result.
