Haha, that's quite okay. That post was some random synapses of my brain firing off on preliminary, half-baked thoughts about the record, compared to what you did. Incredible writing, as always....your part about Stevie was particularly powerful. I'm not sure I felt the same way about the song, but reading your work there is helping me crystallize when and why I do feel that powerfully about music this band (and really, any band) makes. I know it's a powerful piece of music writing when it helps me better understand not only how I feel about the particular piece of music that person's writing about, but how I feel about music in general.

So thanks for that, it's the kind of thing that makes this board such a great place for music lovers.

"Human connection is the dark matter between us. And what we fear is its power. It forges the chains that bind us to our past, our present, and our future. It anchors love. It conquers death. It pulls us through the wreckage of our world.

We just need to see it. To have someone guide us through. Thirty-three years ago, that’s the promise Pearl Jam made to us. Thirty-three years later, miraculously, it’s the one they’ve kept. To keep shouting until we hear. To keep shouting until we believe. Until their voice isn’t needed because we have joined in.

You are not alone.

You are loved.

Don’t give up."

wonderful stuff, Stip

as a 9 year old kid, as a teen, I listened to Pearl Jam because they would tell me "we know it's hard, but you're gonna be OK"

and this album feels just like that, again

I've been mulling over writing about my own personal connection to this album; I don't know if I can dredge all that up, I don't know if it's for the ears of this forum, but let's just say I haven't had a "modern" Pearl Jam album speak to me this clearly and closely; more recently, I've tried to make them speak, but they would just smile; Gigaton started to speak, but the language and tone wasn't quite the same as it was when I was that 9 year old kid

Dark Matter is speaking that language, making that connection, telling me that my 42 years have been for something; I stayed and I'm still here for something

thank you - Like Digster said above, even if stevie was my catalyst, this whole album and the positive board vibes have been a great chance to reflect on the meaning of fandom

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Really looking forward to reading. Gonna wait till tomorrow morning. I can't give it proper consideration until then.

crying to Setting Sun currently:

Had dreams to you I would belong.
Had the dream you would stay with me till kingdom come.
Turns out forever has come and gone.
Am I the only one hanging on?

Every melody in that tune is just so spot on. The way he sings "Am I the only one hanging on" is just gut-wrenching.
