Re: Dark Matter - Dynamic Range Rescue Project
This is sounding really promising, glad to hear it's at least possible.
Jeff's bass sounding much improved in particular.
Not sure how deeply you want to start messing with the tracks but it could be possible to run some audio isolation software to pull out the guitar solo (or other parts of the mix) to give you more to work with, e.g. MVSEP: https://mvsep.com/en

Re: Dark Matter - Dynamic Range Rescue Project
The intro and outro, in particular, feel very live and open to me. I can picture myself standing in the room with them and watching them play this live. If anything, the chorus can get a little "mushy", like too many parts competing for space. I didn't notice the solo on first listen. Will have to check that again.

Overall, I think it is sounds very promising.
My 2 cents: I like hearing more of Jeff's tone but I think it dominates too much compared to the guitars, particularly the right channel guitar.

There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Re: Dark Matter - Dynamic Range Rescue Project
There's something with the backing vocals perhaps? I'm hearing some extra noise (or air?) around the edges when those enter

Re: Dark Matter - Dynamic Range Rescue Project
I will admit though, one thing I'm struggling with in my own mixing is that my left ear is at about 80%... *sad face*
My favorite moment in this song is in the breakdown, right before the buildup, where Stone's guitar (I assume) is doing that beautiful clean work right before Mike comes ripping in on the right. I know it's meant to be subtle but I wish I could crank that Stone part... except for the fact that it probably sits just right in the mix

Re: Dark Matter - Dynamic Range Rescue Project
Amazing work Trag! I received my Bluray copy yesterday but don't have a drive to rip it (btw how disappointing that the visualisations for each song aren't on it - it's just the album cover animation on repeat
).
I much preferred the Atmos mix to the stereo of SOF for its punchier drums and bass, but as others have said, it came at a cost to the volume of the guitars (and to a degree vocals). On quick inspection your mix has rectified this beautifully - well done
P.S. Have you ripped the Wreckage Instrumental from the menu yet?
Flattered to be mentioned but this kind of stem mixing is not something I've ever tackled myself, so happy to sit back and listen to your results if they're going to sound as good as thistragabigzanda wrote:Feedback! Though is others -- like ridleybradout -- want to tackle this, I'm glad to share files or workflows. It's pretty cumbersome though.

It’s already sounding much more balanced and easy on the ears
