Someone said it earlier in the thread, but that performance of Daughter today with it just ending and not going into any kind of tag was really refreshing for the song. Hope they do that more on tour.

100 percent. Same with Corduroy - I'm all set with that long breakdown section - hopefully they're done with that. Maybe they already are - I haven't seen them since 2018.

Still doing it last year.

Damn. I'm not into that for Corduroy. It works for other songs though. One of the things I've always loved about Corduroy is that it has a garage rock vibe to it - its strength is its simplicity. Adding a huge jam in the middle of the song just doesn't do it for me.

Yeah I agree. I used "huge jam" broadly but the call-and-response description is better.

after the Stern interview, you have to kind of think:

How does this band NOT have 10 more years and a few good records left? Doesn't seem like they are anywhere close to feeling like closing up shop.

I'm sure a bit of that assessment is just wishful thinking on my part, but not all of it is, and that gives me hope!

It's not wishful thinking. These guys are bigger music fans than any of us. They clearly fucking love it and need it.

The only thing that will change is the touring I'm sure. But they've already figured out how to do it what works best for them and their own wellness.

They'll be around and putting out music till one of them passes

It was so encouraging to hear Stone say that when they get together they have fun. I know there has to be, at times, a feeling of obligation to some degree but I'm hoping that this recent experience of being also to produce quality work without a massive investment of time sort of refreshes them for another run. Like, "hey we have this new found ability or superpower to get in the studio and do things in a new way and that's exciting!"

They invited Howard. Dude should just wear a secret camera and a wire, and if they have some awesome sessions while he's there, he can approach them afterward with the footage and be like, you wanna do this? Stone's issue was in the knowing that you are being filmed, and how that affects the producing of art, for which I want to give him the biggest hug.

I would love if they could throw together a ramshackle garage rock lo fi quick album almost like demo between 2 bigger records. False starts and all just super loose could even just be a cover album. Been for thus since backspacer no promo either just drop it.

I'm on my third listen in two days. It's quite enjoyable, isn't it? But, boy oh boy, Dark Matter and Running are easily the two big bummers on this album. Whose idea was it to make those the first two singles? Yikes

The consistency of opinion on this is quite startling. RM is usually all over the map with polar opposite takes but this ain't one of them.

i love DM and it totally makes sense as a single, hell it was a hit for them. Running not so much.

Wreckage is a great third single, they should have released a video for it.

For what it's worth, at the London Dark Matter Experience thing last week, Running was not listed as an official single for Dark Matter on the discography display - just Dark Matter and Wreckage.

Yet they play it on Stern lol

they also played Scared of Fear and two other songs that weren't singles

Running is a lot easier to sing than DM. I suspect a few songs from the new album will get short shrift on the coming tour because they push Ed to the limit.

It was probably the fact that it was 6am they didn't play Wreckage etc. Ed sounds rough as fuck. Totally failed on the 'woaaah' in Scared.

Did you guys catch this from Stone around 1:40:20 when asked by Howard what they do when they bring in crap songs (this was during the part about shooting a documentary of their song writing process):

"...We've all got plenty of songs that are on some tape some place that we're going to resurrect when we're 90 and go, 'wow this is the greatest song that we ever wrote'… and Ed wouldn't let us play it" (chuckles in the background)

are these estimates or what’s been shared?

These are gleaned from reading way too many interviews and reviews. Nothing official from the band but not just completely made up either. Of course, they are writing together as a group but they still each brought in specific parts and multiple interviews mention things like "oh yeah, that was a Stone riff", etc. The Stone interview with Kyle Meredith, in particular, had a lot of good nuggets like that.

The only one that I'm guessing on is GTG but c'mon we all know that's an Ed chord progression, right? Into the Wild plays The Who?
