As excellent as Waiting For Stevie is, I think half of the songs on the album are better. That includes React, Respond.

As much as I've waxed rhapsodic about WFS, for almost all the songs on the record if someone said 'i prefer this' I wouldn't argue. I'd disagree, but I wouldn't argueGigalogy84 wrote:As excellent as Waiting For Stevie is, I think half of the songs on the album are better. That includes React, Respond.
I've never had this much trouble ranking an album. Even tiering it

Re: MM 4-5: React/Respond vs. Waiting For Stevie
React respond is somewhat new territory for them. Ed's vocal attempts including his melody, his humming, and that chorus.....are not....typical for him. its pearl jam doing their best split enz (history never repeats/i see red) thrown through a blender that includes pearl jam punk rock tasties.
The song completely unravels at the end and the band is playing their asses off. Its so exciting.
RR is maybe my favorite on the record.

WFS was an early favorite of mine off the album. It took me several listens to really hear all that's going on in React/Respond. It is insanely good and keeps getting better. That elevated chug reminds me of Insignificance for some reason. Anyway, it gets my vote here.

WFS but it is close. And I suspect by next year my vote may well have changed.

There are three songs on the record that have stuck in my ear so that I could hum the hooks from memory. These are two of them.

Re: MM 4-5: React/Respond vs. Waiting For Stevie
I like Stevie, but it's definitely not a five-star level kind of song for me. React/Respond is in my top 3 on the record, right behind Wreckage and Upper Hand, so that gets my vote.
