Reality is sinking in fast now that we’re back stateside. Tons to do, but also being in our dwellings, driving around the neighborhood, taking the kid to school is all kinda emotional. Hoping that lets up with time.
I can also tell my mom is trying to be tough when we chat. We’ll discuss the move, but she doesn’t seem too interested in the finer details - like learning about the kid’s new school for example - which she normally is.

Damn, that's rough. After my older bro (and kids) moved to Aus my mum actually relocated to the same city as my younger bro when he had a baby. I think being a grandparent became a big part of her life and she didn't know what to do with herself.
I realize I'm not helping, just confirming that it's definitely a thing.
Go well, Spike.

Yeah, the taking the grand kid away is maybe the hardest part. My sister lives like ten minutes from them and she sees her kids all the time at least.
Honestly, when we come back to visit (will try to annually), she’ll probably see more of us than she does now in a calendar year. We’ll stay close to them (not two hours away in Chicago) and stay for 2-3 weeks. But I get that “seeing them grow up” is a big thing… at least we have FaceTime etc in this day and age.

I’m also just moody today because I saw Meatbodies last night and had too much bourbon/whiskey. Tomorrow will be better.

Pythons are awesome. The word massive is a bit of a stretch there though.

Re: Great Southern Lands (Australia & NZ...)
really under the pump the last few days with so much to do.
cleaned up both houses to prep for staging then going up to the lake tomorrow after dropping off the kid to mow the lawn and meet the realtor to do staging photos, donated tons of stuff over multiple goodwill runs, have like 8-10 marketplace sales going with plenty more to come, the wife and i got fingerprinted for our fbi and state police checks this morning, forms forms forms.
meanwhile the wife is negotiating for more money, trying to fix the disconnect between her current boss and HR about a promised partial 2024 bonus, and meeting with tax advisors to understand how all that will work (doesn't look pretty).
at least i was able to squeeze in an HOA meeting where i unloaded upcoming building maintenance projects on someone else for once, though i'll of course never be done with it. i kinda want to just sell the city place and wash my hands of it all, but renting it might make more sense.
