Re: React/Respond
Agreed, it feels like it's spiraling downward into the unending madness the lyric hints at throughout the song.stip wrote:I actually like that one - it feels more menacing, like something burrowing under your skin that fades out of sight but doesn't go away, as opposed to something that ends.darth_vedder wrote:VinylGuy wrote:Great production ideaVindicator wrote:In fact there's zero fade outs on the entire album!VinylGuy wrote:Agreed. The ending is awesome and im so happy they didnt fade outVindicator wrote:Yup this song is one of the heaviest moments since at least Life Wasted. The outro scream and solo have the energy of something like Save You.![]()
I'm still not over the fade out during Rival

I'm not as up on the kids lingo these days. Does "absolute shit" mean something along the lines of "best thing Pearl Jam has put down on record in 20 years and the reason I have a Watt for President sign recently posted up in my front yard"?DeeDee wrote:The ending is the absolute shit.

I got stuck in the Dark Matter thread trying to catch up on all the excellent posts and figure out where the hell to thank Stip, Strat, Rock pusher, Harmless, Libezz and all the rest......and just now found my way over here. I hope every deep Pearl Jam fan and even casual fan can feel this song for everything it is. Unfuckingbelievable!!! I've got this one on repeat!

It's neck and neck between this and SoF as my favorite on DM. As of now this one gets the nod.

I love signing the “React, Respond” loudly in the same ghostly, wavering, ‘spooky’ voice that Eddie does. It’s so delightful.

What I am hearing is probably the most visceral and gloriously wild outro since Do the Evolution
Think I have to echo this. This is the heaviest outro since probably DTE. Only ones that come close in that time are Save You ( live especially) and maybe Life Wasted.
This song rules

Re: React/Respond
Team React/Respond, it's my favorite too after 6 listens.
I doubt this has anything to do with it, but I have a long history of really LOVING song #2 on the albums...
Ten: Even Flow - all time classic even if I am sick to death of it. The riff remains one of their best.
Vs: Animal - the song that started it all for me. I didn't even like / care about Ten when it came out. Animal changed my mind about Pearl Jam (I was more into AIC and Nirvana at the time).
Vitalogy: STBC - Love this one but I guess it's not my favorite on the album.
No Code: Hail Hail - maybe my favorite PJ song
Yield: Faithfull - easily a top 20 number by the boys
Binaural: God's Dice - This one gets hate, but I've liked it from day one. Matt is a freaking beast on this song.
Riot Act: Save You - Another great rocker that I love to add to the collection
Pearl Jam: World Wide Suicide - meh, didn't really care for this one actually, so the only #2 song I don't like
Backspacer: Got Some - probably my favorite song on the album
Lightning Bolt: MYM - probably my second favorite song on the album
Gigaton: SBWM - probably my second favorite song on the album
Dark Matter: React/Respond - probably my favorite song on the album

yep, I really like SOF and I think Running is fine, but R/R is the song that goes to new places for Pearl Jam (the frantic four to the floor disco punk of Matt, Ed's spooky psychobilly howl approach, they should do more of this -- let's have a PJ Halloween EP this October)

I love just about every song on this album, but Got to Give is 1 and this is 1a and it isn't even close. This song is a beast and I hope to see it live at least once!

Dark Matter is a good song, even better now that we have the record. But this one goes so much harder and is so much better.

Ed leaves space which has been rare the past few albums.
