I'm not sure why I'm arguing about this. I'll just believe Jeff and move along.

Re: Won't Tell
Whoever wrote what, this song is awesome. It's so refreshing (from a storytelling perspective) on this record. I love the way the band sounds. Love the imagery. Ed's locked in.
And on top of all that, it really helps me like and appreciate Force of Nature more than I ever have before.
Turns out Dark Matter is a pretty good record.

The Zane Lowe interview clarifies the lyric thing. At 32:35
Sounds like basically Jeff had a song he wrote about a dream he had. They gave the lyrics to Ed to sing without feeding him the original melody, the result of which blew Jeff's mind. Then for reasons unknown Ed rewrote the lyrics based on Jeff's original words.
Interesting process. Wish I liked this song! To me it sounds like Keane with loud guitars

Keane with loud guitars is absolutely a band I would have fallen hard for
(Case in point: Jeff Buckley)

If your point is that Jeff Buckley>>>>>>>>>>>>Keane, then of course I agree.Jorge wrote:Jeff Buckley did not sound like Keane with loud guitars
But to me, a person who has heard all of Buckley and a little bit of Keane, they were certainly working in similar sonic territory, minus the guitars in Keane's case.

Re: Won't Tell
Okay, I gotta admit that I'm only familiar with the first Keane album and then a handful of later singles; that's the sound I'm referring to when I use them as a comparison, very poppy and reminiscent of mid-2000s Coldplay. Based on that limited exposure I can't imagine them making something like "Dream Brother," "Mojo Pin," "Nightmares By the Sea," or any of Jeff's snaky, psychedelia-influenced songwriting. Even his more melodic stuff like "Last Goodbye" feels too ambitious for them based on what I've heard. But maybe they take a more abstract turn later in their career that I don't know about, in which case I stand correctedRockPusher wrote:If your point is that Jeff Buckley>>>>>>>>>>>>Keane, then of course I agree.Jorge wrote:Jeff Buckley did not sound like Keane with loud guitars

Re: Won't Tell
I liked Keane's first album quite a bit, nice Duran Duran-style keyboard pop rock - the deliberate 80s influence was interesting to me; I stopped listening after that but I'm guessing they probably decided to take out any interesting parts of their sound, like Mumford & Sons also did after their debut (which I also liked)

This has reminded me that I used to have a coworker who hated Fake Plastic Trees because it sounded too similar to Coldplay.
