Setting Sun had a nice run, but a Brain of J vs. Immortality finale would be nice.

Brain of J is gonna win in a landslide. But I don't care.

Setting Sun!
Everyone on this board is demented.
This is the most deranged MM we’ve ever had.
Where the fuck is faithful??? See what I mean??
Setting sun all the way.
Calibrate your enthusiasm

Easy vote for Setting Sun. Brain of J. is a very good song, but Setting Sun is epic.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Setting Sun's good, and it's improved a bit for me with repeated listens, but Brain of J is an all-timer. Easily the latter.

"Brain of J" easily.
I have to imagine that, in a few years, once the luster of newness has worn off, the idea of a song like "Setting Sun" making it this far in the competition will seem absurd.

“A song like ‘Setting Sun’”? What song of theirs is like Setting Sun? Parting Ways? It’s not as good. Release? Indifference? Those are all-timers. Setting Sun is getting votes because it’s really good, and I’ll bet that in the future it gets them too. It will be an all-timer for many fans, myself included.Kevin Davis wrote:"Brain of J" easily.

I mean a song of similar significance to the band's catalog, not necessarily a song that is sonically similar.RockPusher wrote:“A song like ‘Setting Sun’”? What song of theirs is like Setting Sun?
I think DM is a really good album, but to me it's extremely clear that people are in a honeymoon phase with it right now, and I think it's reasonable that those intense reactions will cool off over time. That's not a knock on the record, or an attempt to diminish the genuine experiences people are having with the record right now (those periods of excitement are one of the most fun things about being a fan) -- it's just how these things go. I'm sure that if we'd had a March Madness two weeks after Gigaton came out, those songs all would have performed far better than they would perform today. Even "Dance of the Clairvoyants," which after four years many people still agree is a creative high watermark for modern PJ and a standalone moment in their catalog, seems to have a ceiling for how well it can perform against truly definitive PJ songs. My prediction is that "Setting Sun" won't even perform that well, but I'm fully open to being wrong.

Re: MM F6: Setting Sun vs. Brain of J
Setting Sun was my early fav thru a few listens of the album, but I don't think it will be in top 3 for most of RM within a few months. I have a feeling people will be coming back to SOF, R/R, and Wreckage more as time goes on. Also Upper Hand, which i think will the top track for most of PJ after some time passes.
It is a great album closer and should be interesting to see live. But it can be lumbering and slow moving which won't lend itself to a high quantity of listens like the ones i listed above.
Brain of J is essential PJ, and an almost perfect example of each band member at their best. Including Jack Irons!

Very few recent songs have built up a presence in the live shows that help elevate their status. I think Setting Sun could endure.

Oh no. Don’t make me choose. I hate this.
I want Setting Sun to win, but I’m probably not being honest with myself if I give it the vote, only because of recency bias. BOJ may be the choice I make a year down the road.
