I watched the Zane Lowe interview in two parts over the last couple evenings. It made me really happy to see the band interacting the way they did with the jokes and little physical gestures. And of course, there's all the reminiscences and whatnot. I've had a sense that this album sits as an encapsulation of their entire history: individually, as a group, as part of the 90s scene in Seattle and beyond, and as a band in the history of rock music. The interview really reinforces that idea. The last part was really touching.

Thanks DeeDee! That bassline was one of my early favorite elements of the metal door leak, and the song ended up delivering on the promise of what seems to me to be a very Who-inspired bassline. Does that make sense to you? I haven't really studied Entwistle's style but it just feels that way to me.

I had a college sociology professor who couldn't fucking stand how fake she perceived Ed to be.

It'd be nice to reread the quote in context again.
I remember reading that RS article 15- 20 years ago or whatever (I was 2 years old when it originally published so I'm late to the party) and don't remember interpreting it as Ed looking for something to fight against. Though maybe it's semantics. I saw it as Ed being uncomfortable with all the luxury he was bombarded with as a newly rich and famous _poster_ rock star. And he needed to reject it to feel himself.
I could have my timeline off though which skews my interpretation. Not sure how truly in the limelight PJ was yet during the recording of VS.


I do wonder if Ed was being sincere or just putting a quote out there for street cred.
I now personally think it's both.

The Stern interview had them all up pretty early in the morning.

Full day of press, plus rehearsals, upcoming tour...
Who knows how many interviews he did that day
Mike was probably exhausted.

Zane didn't have a whole lot of questions for Mike either; as the interview kind of seemed to be dominated mostly by Ed & Jeff
Perhaps Mike was just letting them take the wheel.

I may be off on this but I thought it was filmed before the album came out because it seemed like they teased a portion of it when they released the Wreckage single.

Edit: OK, maybe Ed is - but he's wearing a different, short-sleeved button-up shirt in the performance videos on Zane, which threw me initially.
