Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
Simmons is a 90s era fan. In particular, he's been on the record as saying he thinks Riot Act sucks. You could even get a little glimpse of it during this interview when they played the word associate game and Riot Act came up.DDWJMUVW wrote:The awkwardness with Ed and Bill was palpable.spike wrote:that simmons interview was awkward lol. if jeff hadn't been there, we're talking between two ferns territory.
Credit to Jeff for leveling things out. That dude is incredibly emotionally and socially mature.
Bill seems like a stiff and doesn’t appear like he really knows the band the way other interviewers do (Zane Lowe for instance).
Still fun to see the two of them talk about things other than the record for a change. Loved all the stories and anecdotes from the early years.

They gave their answers and he said "Wow, not a lot of memories with Riot Act, huh?". It was sort of an insinuation that the album sucked and it wasn't a memorable experience.VinylGuy wrote:yeah, he pointed out something with RA.

One other thing I enjoyed about that little game was Ed having no idea how to do it. I think the point was just to quickly note what stood out from making each album. But Simmons would say "Riot Act" and Ed would say something like "chess pieces", as if that means anything to the listener. I enjoyed that after like the 1st one Simmons didn't even bother to follow up with Ed on what this stuff meant, LOL.

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
Ed's using tweeds of some kind in Vancouver - whatever they are, they're not what he was using in the rehearsals filmed for Stern, etc.:Birds in Hell wrote:Seeing it clearer on the performance vids, I think he could be right.Strat wrote:My brother is convinced its a tonemaster....Birds in Hell wrote:They look very much like the 50s tweed Deluxes and Twin set-up he's been using for years, usually two Deluxes either side with the Twin in the middle:Strat wrote:Ed rocking some Fender Deluxe or hot rods of sorts.
However, they're not his old ones. To begin with, they're obviously new and covered in black tolex and he's also dropped the second Deluxe.
There's also a small badge in the bottom right corner of the Deluxe - interesting, it's in the exact same place as the "Tonemaster" badge on Fender's current digital amp range. That said, there is no Tonemaster version of the tweed Deluxe (or any tweed amp) in the current range.
A few possibilities:
1. Ed had Fender knock up a few new tweed Deluxe and Twin reissues for him but in black tolex for this tour (maybe doesn't want to bring the old ones on the road anymore).
2. Fender are bringing out some new Tonemaster tweed amps and threw Ed a few prototypes to try out. Not convinced about this necessarily, as Fender would almost certainly stick with the traditional aesthetics if that were the case.
3. Similar to The Edge's signature tweed Deluxe, maybe Fender are bringing out a Vedder signature in the near-ish future and these are instead prototypes of that?
I'm thinking 1 is most likely.
Ed using digital modelling amps, what a time to be alive.
It looks very much like the FR-10 and FR-12 powered speakers, which means (if true) he must have a modeller (e.g. ToneMaster Pro, Kemper, etc.) running into them, probably hiding behind the amps.
I get that it makes sense for reliability on the road but I'm still a complete tube snob.
