One of best bridges on an album with awesome bridges

I could see this on Riot Act or Binaural

I didn't listen to this before the record came out and it's definitely my favorite on the record. It has all the ingredients for why I listen to Pearl Jam.

It's one of my favorites on the record too -- "Upper Hand" and "Scared of Fear" are my five-stars, but this one is right below in the next tier. I love the back-and-forth interplay between the vocal line and the guitars in (what I guess is) the chorus ("renounce the demigods, king diamond to discard" -- da-NAAAHHH, da-NAHHHH). A vintage PJ songwriting device that just takes me straight away to a happy place.

Those descending prechorus chords are superduper hummable.

Back in this one's early days as a single, I'd be singing the bridge to myself and then humming the little wind-up into Mike's solo, only instead of actually having a handle on the Dark Matter music, it was the breakdown from 311's "Down" that I was actually hearing in my head.
