There’s greatness here but does the band sound bored?

What were they saying? I haven't read through this entire thread, and I'm sure someone somewhere already posted this, but the lyrics during the chorus make me think of Chris Cornell. They make me think of a friend that died, so I wonder if that's where Eddie's head was when he was writing that.

I've come to believe that the drum tones of this album are most detrimental to this song

Even though there is almost no word salad on this album at all, and Eddie has made excellent vocal choices throughout, I do wish the (relatively) shorter songs like this one has more instrumental moments between vocals

Not every instrument or overdub is meant to be recognizably heard in a mix.

Fair. I guess the intent for those instruments is to provide some backing/support to the main instruments and harmonies. Still, it feels like there is some stuff that would have been nice to make more prominent. I wonder if I would notice the absence of these keys if they were not there at all! My hope is yes, such that they are adding something to the song without being recognizably heard.

I imagine they give him an unplugged keyboard to play during concerts, kind of like those toy steering wheels you give kids to pretend they’re driving in the car

Been really getting into what Stone plays in the bridge, and glad to see it translates so well live.

Boom the Maggie Simpson of Pearl Jam -- Confirmed
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I love that part
Didn't pick it out until I listened on vinyl with the headphones...but such a great guitar part
Really comes through live too

I've only just started to listen to these instrumental versions on YouTube

Loving what I'm hearing so far especially the isolated bass and drums

On the surface this is a very Eddie and Mike album

But clearly underneath...Jeff and Matt are just killing it on this album

Let's not forget Stone. There are very pretty Stone "arrangement" moments all over this thing, nevermind his album-opening "3 chord riff." Out of all the members of this band, he is the one who digs in the dirt, and who I can probably relate with the most.

It would be cool to use this new ability people have found to isolate channels and then stems to track each band member's contribution through the album. "The Stone Mix", "The Matt Mix," etc where it's just that member and no one else. The Jeff Mix could be amazing for me as a bass player, although RM does have DeeDee :)
