Yeah as I previously mentioned, they’ve been looking for a lakehouse for a couple years. Initially I thought this was a good sign, but now I’m thinking they’re just unreasonable/inexperienced and think they can find a place on the water with zero issues/risk.

I mean, worst case we keep it for another year and sell it, as we’ll be past the double US/Aussie tax window then. Rent it during that time.

You’d be nuts to get rid of it as long as he’s there. It’s all about good tenants, which I doubt we’d find where our lake is. Would be some redneck dude with a tinny.

Welp, they were not willing to come back to the table. Didn’t want to invest in what the place supposedly needs; must’ve been a rough inspection…

I bet the “engineer” that wasn’t available at the times we offered was the guy’s brother or uncle.

Back on the market now, another showing tomorrow. Have a plumber coming tonight to hopefully resolve the slow water leak in the utility room. Wife’s on the phone with a property manager now, in case we have to rent it…

Sounds like they just have unreasonable expectations if they’ve been looking for 2 years. I bet their realtor fucking hates them by now.

Exactly. I wonder how many realtors they’ve burned through.

Plumbers got here around dinner time. We started flushing toilets and turning on sinks, and pretty quickly the drain in the floor of the utility room started backing up, so that’s the source of the water.

We went out in the yard to the septic tank, which was by no means totally backed up, but the ejector pump that shoots what’s in that tank up to then main line may be bad. A few thousand for it, so I decided to call off the plumbers and check to see if it’s on the county to fix, as we were told they maintain the septic.

County gets out here around 9pm. Nice guy who made a few calls and determined any maintenance is on us. I guess the sewers used to be maintained by a private company that went out of business in 2019, so the county took over. That company put in our septic, but then the agreement was homeowner maintains, so I guess that explains the misinformation we received.

Anyway, seems to be working okay now, after the plumbers observed evidence of a soft clog being cleared, so holding pat for now. If it backs up again, probably a new pump and snaking of the line from house to septic tank.

If one can afford it...

Friend of a friend is looking for a space, studio at the most but literally just a room. I see multi-dwelling units going up locally but never looked at pricing, absolutely insane.

I’ve gone from big emotions letting this place go, to seeing more clearly than ever why we must unload it (if we’re not enjoying it ourselves).

But cruel plot twist, my wife now feels like renting it out is the better idea…

The smaller dwelling rental market is crazy. Not as much the case at higher rents.

Renting rules. My a/c evaporator started leaking and I went out for a beer while the maintenance dude fixed it
