Didn't say he didn't deserve writing credit, only specified the music was written by Stone/Jeff/Mike. Just adding to the existing list!

Because that's his name.

Speaking of Andrew, I wonder how much this record benefited from Ed having just made a solo album.

He seems to come into this one inspired, excited, and probably with fewer backlogged ideas than usual. He’s responding to the band instead of acting like de facto leader. His creative expression machine hasn’t been sitting under a tarp in the garage for several years. And with someone around to endlessly fanboy and get excited about things, there might be less impulse to put a little fixing on stuff.

Forbes just did a hit piece on Dark Matter saying its ratings didn't just fall off, but "plummeted" and even "cratered".
"It's nowhere to be seen" was another expression used in the article.

Fell down the charts, yes.

Streaming broke the Billboard charts, though. Imagine if in 1998, every time you listened to your Wish You Were Here CD at home it counted incrementally towards the album’s weekly sales tally.

The Billboard 200 is chock full of old records. I think Nevermind is on there right now. Sublime was on last week. The Moana soundtrack. Etc.

The numbers for Dark Matter aren’t that different from the new Green Day or new Foo Fighters. But yeah, of course Nevermind and Abba’s Greatest Hits are getting more streams.

Looks like this Wotman/Louis Severson III partnership isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The moment one of these songs shows up in The Last of Us season 2 or The Bear season 3 (or some other show or film) it will drum up more interest. The album was received well by fans, which will give it staying power in ways Forbes isn’t measuring.

Confirmation that Dark Matter is relevant. Actually two.

1) My wife said, I heard a new Pearl Jam song on the radio today that I could totally vibe with. (It was Wreckage).

2) My boss, who likes music and was in some regionally known hardcore bands in the late 80s and 90s*, is not super into Pearl Jam but knows I am, just stuck his head in my office and said "New Pearl Jam yes or no?" I said it's the best thing they've put out since 2003 and he said yes. It feels like the first couple of records to him. Just a great rock album.

So two actual humans, not stream counting bots, affirm that this record has standout quality.

* I only mention this because it defines his usual taste as a little further under the radar than Pearl Jam flies even in 2024.

Wreckage is growing on me. Like many of the songs on DM, it wears its influences better than PJ has been able to do in the past, i.e. Wreckage is their best Tom Petty, Got to Give is their best The Who, etc.

Since my son loves this song so much, I ordered Into the Great Wide Open vinyl so he can hear Learning to Fly.

yeah, the album and specially dm and wreckage got attention for sure. It would be good if they release another single and make a video or tv appearances but this is PJ and im sure for them all press related stuff is over.
