So who here doesn't really like the Beatles

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

They stole Ringo because he was the drummer for one of their more popular rivals, and was popular on the Liverpool scene all by himself.
Do you know that drummers name? Apparently they never mentioned it in interviews. He must've really pissed them off.

Pete Best? Pete gets mentioned all the time.

I'm sure they were referring to Johnny Hutchinson, who was only actually grabbed as a stand-in for the "Silver Beetles" when the band fired one drummer, learned that they had to wait two days for the new guy to start, and had two gigs in the meantime. He was never actually asked or recruited for the band....he did play the stand-in gigs, but he was vocal about not liking the band at that time.

He came around to liking them, and later volunteered to stand in yet again when they had a few drummerless gigs before Ringo could join them.

For me the day that evenslow commented on my reading habits was the most important day of my life.

For him it was Monday.

John Lennon couldn't shut up about the music he disliked. Especially the Beatles.

Maybe if asked they might say another band is not their thing or something but I can't see them slagging off another band publicly. Well maybe John. They might pull an Eddie Vedder and say they never heard something bait worthy like Ed did when Chris Cornell put out Scream. Very diplomatic.

Lennon was at near-Gallagher levels for talking shit, during the band's heyday. He couldn't say enough bad things about everybody else in the whole world (minus the groups the band had grown up loving). It's part of why his comments about Beatles songs made in the 66-74 era are so hard to take seriously.

Hell, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were two of his closest friends, and he teased them mercilessly in the press for copying the Beatles every move. When the Beatles announced their break-up he even quipped that the Stones would probably do it, now, just because the Beatles had paved the way.

*although he had good things to say about the Monkees, so....

I kind of assume it was just a part of his love of winding everyone up.

It's 1967. Who are you gonna single out for praise? The Monkees.

oddly enough, I always loved this about John Lennon. critical, sarcastic, a bit egotistical, and idealistic as hell underneath it all.
