True, although apparently the band recorded their parts around four years before the album was eventually released in 2021.oneway23 wrote:Stainer was on the Tomahawk record from 2021. That's not that long ago. Not sure what he's been up to since.

Thank you, Mr. Oneway. This has prompted a (long overdue) Tomahawk binge.

Yeah I thought the newest Tomahawk was really underwhelming. Patton bringing back Mr. Bungle with Dave Lombardo and Scott Ian in it now and releasing their new album a couple months before definitely took a lot of the hype away too, at least for me.

I know Battles are still active because they played some dates earlier this year in the US and they're going to be in Europe on the fall.

Re: RIP Steve Albini
I just remember showing my hipster dork friends in college Helmet when they would listen to Battles and pretty much every one of them inevitably called it nu metal or butt rock and thought it was horrible. Maybe Battles was actually good, I don’t even remember what they sounded like.
Also I think the Bush album Albini produced is pretty underrated. Certainly better than anything Pearl Jam’s done in 20 years now.

Razorblade Suitcase is a pretty solid listen for me, I spin that relatively often.Jammer XCI wrote:I just remember showing my hipster dork friends in college Helmet when they would listen to Battles and pretty much every one of them inevitably called it nu metal or butt rock and thought it was horrible. As I understand, Gavin is the only member of the 90s band still performing as Bush.tragabigzanda wrote:Bush is a funny band. Gavin Rosdale is easy on the eyes, but he's a pretty bad singer. You take him out of the picture and they get a lot more interesting.

Mirrored, their debut from '07, is incredible. Definitely hipster dork fare but still well worth a revisit.Jammer XCI wrote:Maybe Battles was actually good, I don’t even remember what they sounded like.

Been listening to The Wedding Present's Seamonsters a lot since Albini's death. Probably my favorite record he ever recorded. Hits extra hard now.
