well this was interesting. my top 10 are split 5/5 between albums. it looks like what separates Dark Matter from Gigaton for me are the songs i'm not big on. bottom 6 on this list are all Gigaton. i dunno if it's recency bias or what, but i found it surprise how my list shook out.
I haven't felt bold enough to attempt this ranking yet, but I think what you said is likely directionally true for me, too.
I love Gigaton, and Buckle Up and Comes Then Goes are 4-stars and 5-stars, respectively. But it seems likely that the rest of the back half of that album falls below everything on Dark Matter for me. And even at 4-stars, Buckle Up is behind most of DM.
Gave this a shot while consciously attempting to fight recency bias. Songs are 5-stars through Won't Tell, and 4-stars down through Buckle Up (with perhaps the exception of Alright; it's good but also gets a sequencing-based boost).

Having given Gigaton some recent listening lets do this again. The first 6 are the five star territory. Dark Matter through Quick Escape are very close.

Never Destination (Gigaton)

Something Special (Dark Matter)
Won't Tell (Dark Matter)
Seven O'Clock (Gigaton) this whole sequence is very flip a coinish
River Cross (Gigaton) in the right moment this still hits very powerfully
Retrograde (Gigaton) we just dip below four stars around here
Got to Give (Dark Matter)
Alright (Gigaton) this is GREATLY enhanced by its album placement, but as a stand alone song is less effective

same - even take the long way, which i have at the bottom of both records, is still perfectly fine. i probably would like it even more if it was on a riot act or binaural

Listened to both in full a few days ago, so with the caveat that they've got different aims, here's the list. It gets pretty murky in the middle...I feel pretty sure about the top and bottom 5-6 but it's alot tougher after that.
