what the fuck is everyone on about?
the 'long agoooooooo-owwowowowow" part is one the best moments of the song, as far as I'm concerned
it's like they borrowed a bit from the electronic genre and it blends in perfectly

I'm really, really looking forward to hearing these shows (and making an O'Brien-less Lightning Bolt mix from the live tracks).
I can't keep up with the youtube videos so I'm looking forward to your mix, assuming its made public

It probably won't be for a while, most of the live versions I ended up using on my S/T mix were from the European and Australian legs of the 2006 tour. The best versions of some of the new songs might not be played until the Australian leg next year or wherever else they'll end up later in 2014 (Europe, another trek around the US, etc.)

Yeah, I hope my quibbles with the production on the studio version didn't give the impression that I don't really like this song--my main gripe with the last couple records has been the absence of moods and textures that I missed from their middle period, and this record definitely has some of that, this song being probably the best example. And while I don't think "Pendulum" quite ranks with the middle period stuff, its presence both on the album and as a definitive moment in the live show is encouraging, not least of which for its simple indication that Pearl Jam haven't lost their instincts for this type of music entirely.

One of the cool things about this song as an opener is that they're bumping back their typical openers ("Release," "Wash," "Of the Girl"--songs you never expect to see anywhere else in the set) to the #2 spot, almost as if they're using "Pendulum" as their own entrance music. Some very interesting-looking sets on this tour, and it's encouraging to see them building their sets around new material again.

They said that at Worcester as well. But this band also says they don't like planning that far in advance.

That Boise one kills me. That was one of the best shows they've ever had. If they ever played Boise again I would want to be there.

They said, "enjoy the show, we're not coming around here for awhile" at the end of the Portland show in 2009. 4 years later...

This along with Swallowed Whole, Yellow Moon, the music of My Father's Son and Infallible are hitting me pretty hard right now however, Pendulum is incredible and grows on me with each listen. Great to hear them sounding this together. I'm saving the song Lightning Bolt for a later date, from what parts I've heard so far it sounds awesome!

Good times...
