Agree with the comments on SoF. To me that bridge is the most Ten/Vs sounding thing the band has done since maybe those albums. If we’re just looking at bridges, this would be my pick for sure.

Reminds me of Mike's tone/note choice in the solo section of live versions of Crown of Thorns.Revelator wrote:100%. First time I heard the SoF bridge it sent chills down the spine, sounded like that vintage PJ/McCready guitar tone that I haven't heard on record in close to 20-ish yearsKevin Davis wrote:Totally agreeTj wrote:Scared of Fears bridge is the moment on this record that takes me back to that magical time around 93-95. It is wonderful. Running reminds me of the way the bridge functions in the Beach Boys Wouldn't it be Nice. Taking a fairly routine digestible song and elevating it to to a level it doesn't feel as if it belongs until the next time you hear it. Then you remember oh yeah this is great.

Favourite bridge is definitely React, Respond.
It's the best 80's pastiche PJ has ever done. I also think it's the best thing on the record from a production perspective.

Voting for:
Running: Great bridge that gives the song an edge it didn't have before and suddenly makes everything before it just slightly less fun in the best way
Waiting for Stevie: Mostly for how awesome that extended note is, and the transition back into the final verse/chorus/outro - which is not in the bridge per se, but is made possible by the bridge
Scared of Fear: Fun solo going in, great atmosphere, completely sets up the raised stakes of the final sequence.
not sure of my 4th just yet

For top 4 went with WfS, SoF, GtG and Won't Tell. I feel like people are sleeping on the Won't Tell bridge, which really connects the earlier portion of the song to the U2/Cure outro perfectly.

I think the best three are probably the first three; Scared of Fear, React, Respond and Wreckage (which feels like it's got two bridges, both of which are really good).

I don't have the timestamps, but the part where it quiets down in the middle and Jeff's bass comes to the forefront, and the guitar swells (with Ed yelling "holding on") making up the section before the elongated outro.

The Dark Matter bridge doesn't start until 2:19. Jeez. What kind of keystone cops operation are we running here.

Re: Dark Matter: Best Bridge
In all seriousness, though. I'm not sure what constitutes a bridge. Does Setting Sun have a bridge that the band just never leaves? It's not the verse or chorus. Is that a bridge? A bridge to infinity even?

Re: Dark Matter: Best Bridge
A bridge connects two components of a song (verses, chorus, outro, etc.) and is not repeated elsewhere in the song. Like any definition, it gets a bit messy at times. I wouldn't consider the outro to Setting Sun the bridge.lvc wrote:In all seriousness, though. I'm not sure what constitutes a bridge. Does Setting Sun have a bridge that the band just never leaves? the bridge to 'react, respond' reminds me of the bridge in 'my father's son'

Not Waiting for Stevie. The bridge is the weakest part.
