Porch is meant to be taken seriously. Once and Supersonic are not.stip wrote:Ten doesnt have one, but porch is as close as it getsMatters wrote:If Ten has a Supersonic it’s Once.

I dont remember the episode or what was said but Paul from the SOLAT podcast had a decent interpretation of those lyrics when Supersonic was their lyric of the weekMs Harmless wrote:can you explain the lines:Kevin Davis wrote:Here is the version with the altered lyrics. From what I can see it is blocked from being embedded so you will likely have to follow the link to watch it on Youtube.
I dig “Supersonic” — I never understood why it was so disliked.
Supersonic gonna take my soul
I stopped the rhythm but my clock was full, yeah

No idea. They kind of remind me of “numbers keep falling off the calendar’s floor” — I feel like I can pick up a sense of what the lyric is trying to convey, but I can’t draw the line from the words to the emotion. I like the music of the words, though.Ms Harmless wrote:

I don't think a band kicks off their debut album with a song they don't believe is serious.Ms Harmless wrote:yeah I've never heard that Once isn't meant to be taken seriouslystip wrote:Once was deathly serious at the time, even if its more fun nowMatters wrote:Porch is meant to be taken seriously. Re: Let's Rank the Supersonics
That’s true I think. Maybe one day Supersonic will be thought of as deathly serious.stip wrote:Once was deathly serious at the time, even if its more fun nowMatters wrote:Porch is meant to be taken seriously. I neglected to consider Dirty Frank. That’s the answer.

I feel like Whipping is the Supersonic of Vitalogy. A fun simple rock song that seems to go off of energy more than anything else. Like Running as well on Dark Matter.

Re: Let's Rank the Supersonics
Whipping has several clever lines / fragments, which was a bit of a theme on Vitalogy; maybe not as complex as, say, Last Exit, but in no way phoned in -- more akin to the lyrical method of Wishlist, to me; interestingly, Ed still works in that manner, of abstract poetic line fragments that are associative rather than linear, at times, but when he dashes them off and doesn't think them through enough, we can get gibberish a la Supersonic; even a line like "I never knew soap makes you taller" isn't gibberish, it's a comment on the absurdity of the claims of advertisements

Whipping is basically Grievance and neither of these are light songs.

I suppose the non-standard Vitalogy tracks play that role, but if any track played that function it would be Bugs - a proto Supersonic
Riot Act has exactly the run time it both merits and deserves. There is actually only an excess of "excessive" allegations.
Anyway, Take The Long Way is about the bottom of the barrel for me. Not even Mike McCready--who is admittedly doing his darnedest--can save that feeble effort to make a time signature into a song.
As for best, I actually like Supersonic. Big Wave is also a good one, especially if they'd extended the outro.
And as for Supersonic philosophy, I would argue that Bugs was the first but the band soon evolved and decided to make it more fun than grating.

Poets, man. You just can't trust them with the language. Turning nouns into adjectives like they own the place.Ms Harmless wrote:hmm, that's a good response, food for thoughtKevin Davis wrote:No idea. anyway, the lyric is "Supersonic gone and took my soul; I caught the rhythm but the clock was slow" It's about trying not to let time get away from you.
