I have trouble understanding why anyone would want a Pearl Jam concert to start w 3-4 low energy songs.
Every sentence in my head, someone else has said.

The idea I think made more sense when they were playing longer sets.

Agree but even for most of their longer shows it wasn’t an ideal template unless they were gonna do something like Mansfield.
Is 6/16/00 Katowice the first time they tried this approach?
I don’t think there’s ever been better execution:
Release
Of the Girl
Sleight of Hand
Thin Air
Insignificance
Grievance
Corduroy
Animal
Hail, Hail.

with the lights off, and the band sitting down, it was a cool emotional vibe way to begin the show, which made the transition into faster/harder stuff that much more xtreme
but on this tour, the vids of the lights on and band standing for the slow songs to kick it off doesnt come across well to me

b/c some of those songs will get passed over for evenflow and jeremy if they are not played early. honestly, i love it. the last time i saw them 'animal' was the first fast sound and i literally couldn't stop myself from jumping. the 3-4 quieter songs almost make the loud sounds louder.Matters wrote:I have trouble understanding why anyone would want a Pearl Jam concert to start w 3-4 low energy songs.

Difficult to say which album. Probably more personal preference than anything.Jorge wrote:Which album is best for intoxicated enjoyment?
Lost Dogs and Riot Act are great for sure
Songs that've been a step above tonight:
- Undone
- Dead Man
- Whale Song
- Get Right
- Green Disease
Reading Mike's post really made me want to listen to Undone, and it didn't disappoint.
Altered states can help channel a sacred feeling from experiencing the music in a way that incorporates past phases with today's perspective.
Don't get me wrong sometimes you get stoned and it just sounds good without all that heady psychology 101.
But on nights like tonight, I'm having fun with the deep feels.
I played Pearl Jam on a couple family road trips to Colorado from Texas growing up, and now as an adult I live in the state. PJ is a constant presence and the different meaning, almost like phases, albums and songs take on over time provides a special kind of joy. I never would've thought I'd be living here until I did. The different perspectives of the same place and the same music are powerful.
Mike's post on page 224.
I relate to a lot of your experience.
- Spoiler: show

On another note, I think any band you have a deep connection with lends itself well to psychedelics too.
You are probably literally changing brain connections, turbocharging new appreciation.

Sleeping By Myself > Something Special
And whoever said All Or None is a Mike McCready masterpiece was speaking my language. That solo at the end of that record -- cathartic and angry -- is an achievement.

Re: Post Random Pearl Jam-Related Thoughts You Have
My son recently had a 2,500km solo drive and I took the opportunity to make him a 4 disc, 12 songs per disc PJ mixer, in mostly chronological order. I chose my own personal favourite songs, but with a mind to what he would enjoy as well, mixing studio tracks with some fave live versions as well.
Distilling my PJ fandom to 4 lots of 12 songs was an interesting process, but I'm very happy with the resulting 4 disc set that I have been spinning quite a bit of late.

Thinking about the guy who bought a hotdog at the start of Elderly Woman in OKC ‘22.
I hope he’s having a great day.

I wish I knew. I just remember Ed calling him out for it, and laughing. He was up behind the stage.
