If you’d take your hand out of her shirt, they probably wouldn’t focus on you so much.

I’m imagining Doug and Mrs Doug at a game being like Boebert at Beetlejuice.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.
O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

Maybe she’ll buy Ted’s cabin.tragabigzanda wrote:Yesterday we drove 2.5 hours to a festival built around a rancher cooperative focused on regenerative grazing. Very cool event with lots of kid-friendly activities, primo grub, artisans, live music. Was able to let our kid ride wild in this humongous outdoor space, keep an eye on her from a distance, and generally trust she was in a safe environment. That felt very good.
Also I got a new billfold made out of local bison hide for only $30. Then I got a hunch about where we were and looked it up, sure enough we were very close to Ted Kaczynski’s cabin.
Today we did a play date at the splash park then went out for ice cream.
We are making a concerted effort to create this sort of bucolic upbringing for my kid and I find myself hoping that it’s sinking in, that someday when the world is even more of a toxic rat race she’ll look back at this time and feel gratitude that we showed her a pleasant and safe quality of life; and that she’ll be able to continue that quality of life wherever she may be (or even help build it where it may no longer exist). I hope she doesn’t wind up wanting for anything and hating us for showing her a quality of life she can’t sustain on her own.
