This is the first time it's really gotten to me, too. I was able to look (or I guess hear) past it with Avocado and LB.
I think KD's insight about age applies to me too. I think the older I get the more it effects me.

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
The only genuine fix would be for the band to remaster the album with greater dynamic range. Depending on whether any significant compression or limiting was applied during the mixing stage to the individual tracks, remixing may also be needed.Bi_3 wrote:Can this be fixed using those stems (is that what they are called?) that people seemed to have access to a few months back?epilogue wrote:It's the whole album overall but it only really bothers me on SoF and Wreckage. That said, the stems (which are extracted from the surround mix) certainly appear to be much more dynamic than the final record. You can use those to make a version of the record that is much less compressed - it will however have limitations compared to what the band could create as it will be restricted to only those stems (which may already have EQ or compression applied or combine several tracks into one), not the raw audio tracks themselves as recorded in the studio.
That said, it's probably the best we'll ever get, as I can't see the band 'fixing' the album any time soon.

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
trag has said positive things about the stems, basically walking back his AW criticism a bit and placing the blame on Serban Ghenea. This is one reason why many of us have high hopes about trag's mix which will arrive at some point in the not too distant future. He's already shown that he can improve dynamic range, but since he's a perfectionist, he's taking the time to get it right.

How heavily will you associate this album with your prodigal return to the bosom of the state of hockey?Strat wrote:I hate to even admit it, but ive grown accustomed to the official mix and i think it serves the music well. Its exciting.

I too am annoying.
I tried to listen to Setting Sun the other day (first time since week of release) to compare something to the live versions and it was ridiculous, unlistenable.

have you seen this thing? https://vocalremover.org/splitter-aitragabigzanda wrote:Allow me to clear the air a bit:
1. I’ll entirely apologize and take back any criticism I put to Wotman, at least as it relates to the audio quality of the tracks. Everything I hate about the album lies entirely with Ghanea.
2. The stems are good, but they’re weird in that they’re Atmos stems — bass tracks are commingled with vocal track and drum tracks; drum room tones are commingled with guitar tracks; guitar solos are commingled with stereo reverb tracks. This limits what I can do.
3. It’s not that I’m “taking my time” to make them perfect. It’s just that I can’t really prioritize this project over other stuff in my life. It’ll get done when it’s done, and I won’t circulate until I’m confident it’s about the best I can personally make it. My best ETA is another month.
Genuinely appreciate your interest, and the more recent conversations around compression and hearing loss and whatnot!
it's mostly for removing vocals but can sometimes separate instruments too.

Ah yes, the long history of re-mastering is really just a cover-up for albums that suckedoasisfan35 wrote:Like, as a collective?RockPusher wrote:Oasis.oasisfan35 wrote:If one has to work to enjoy an album, who's doing it wrong?
