I think VinylGuy is right about it being the Broken Records Podcast. I've listened to that, the Howard Stern interview, and the Zane Lowe interview. Of the three, I'm most certain it's the podcast, but I couldn't say exactly when he mentions it.
It was, thanks

the portland performance is gorgeous.

I am seeing them 3 times so I am assuming between those 3 shows I'll get every song, but I really hope this stays as a closer the whole tour.

After hearing this live in person as a closer I say this is a top tier classic.

It seems that the 'Am I the only one hanging on?' line in the outro may have gone the way of 'live and die let it be done'. Ed's only sung it once in the 10 live versions so far (Portland).

He just sings "or be the sun at the break of dawn!" twice in that section, which feels wrong, like he's climaxing twice :|

it's pissed me off too, gang. and the portland one (the only one he's got right) he flubs just before that line.

could this song fit early in the set? maybe in the 3-4 slot, as the last "quiet" one before they kick in?

What's wrong with climaxing twice

Of all the shows I’ve seen them play throughout the years, never has one felt like it ended on such a high note and left me wanting more as it did when they closed with Setting Sun.

The addition of "Setting Sun" as a standard closer (a setlist spot which has historically been pretty protected, reserved for a half dozen or so songs) is an interesting shakeup to expeted PJ setlist structure. Unless my memory is failing me, I think there are only three album closers that have also been used as show closers --"Indifference," "Around the Bend" (a few times in '96), and "Setting Sun." Are there any others? I know "Parting Ways" closed the main set a number of times in 2000, but did it ever close a whole show?

Indifference (110)
Porch (85)
Baba O'Riley (59)
Alive (25)
I've Got a Feeling (21)
Leash (21)
Fuckin' Up (15)
Setting Sun (10)
80 shows...

i thought they played fuckin up more than 15 times

Hard to count porch and leash since im assuming these were pretty much exclusively when they just had 1-2 albums

leadh would be a fun way to end a show though

I'm guessing the 15 just refers to how many times it has closed a show.

I think, other than "Setting Sun," every song on that list had been introduced into the setlist by 1992 or 1993. All the more remarkable for a new song to crack that company this late in the game.

Early on for sure -- in '93 and '94, maybe into '95, it was played a number of times at various different points in the set. But throughout '95 and certainly by '96, its placement as a closer became pretty fixed. There have been rare exceptions since then, but I don't think (last time I saw them at Wrigley in '16, they played "YL" at what felt like the end of the show, but then they ended on "I've Got a Feeling").
