Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
So the album is settling well, I have tempered my expectations for their albums at this point. I don't think there are any surprises or anything experimental on it (an overused word in music anyway) but what I do like compared to the last 2 albums is that the band are not trying to be anything that they're not. There is a less restless feeling on it, and it doesn't sound contrived.
What I would change is just put Sirens after Pendulum instead of MFS. It really jars after that, but I changed it on my mp3 player and flows better after Pendulum musically and lyrically... like that Infallible/ Pendulum talk about tempting fate and the 'to and fro' of life and good fortune... leads into Sirens where he is telling his partner that he understands this and wants them to know he doesnt take them for granted.

Not sure if this Stone Stereogum has been posted here but I'm enjoying reading about their process.

Cornell - Wow. He's a master, that performance of Footsteps is the best version I've ever seen. I see Cornell and Eddie have been influencing each other over the years, it's been an amazing ride watching the Cornell PJ connection play itself out over the years. The dude is an integral piece to the PJ story and he's as much of a bedrock to their sound and evolution as Neil Young or Pete Townshend, IMO.

As for the album, I'm really finding the tandem of Pendulum to Swallowed Whole to be an essential part to me understanding the whole thing. At first I couldn't get my ears around SW with the repeating couplets sort of confusing me and throwing me off, but the bridge is what has brought me into that song. When you couple that with the bleak lead in of Pendulum, and then the Into the Wild optimism of Swallowed Whole, the album starts to make a whole lot of sense to me as a whole piece. I'm now finding myself repeating plays of these 2 cause of it and it's making the album settle in really nicely.

Received my regular version vinyl today. Mr/Ms potato chip fingers packed my LP. Fingerprints and dust everywhere. However thats a minor, minor issue because the pacakging looks great, no damage to it or the Vinyl. I'll give it a spin tonight after work. Fingers crossed

the parts in getaway 'but i found my place...i got my own way to believe' is the best music on the album. the high hat and the way ed adds an h sound before words or in the middle is gold to my ears. pendulum is a nice segment of music. not really a song. infallibles chorus is easy to digest. kinda like a blah day day getting a little better. that's all I got.

Future Days remains as the only dud for me. The piano at the beginning and end are the worst part of the entire album, IMO. Take out the piano entirely and you have a decent b-side, would have still preferred Yellow Moon as the closer and the inclusion of...OF THE FUCKING EARTH

I have a big hatred for Of The Earth and had big fears this album would be stuff like that. That's why I had zero expectations for it. Happy me!
Love the piano on Future Days.

after 46% reporting, it has moved nearly 107K. Could get 200k + the first week!lefty wrote:Tomorrow, I believe.NothingBetterMan wrote:When do the US sales numbers come out for the first week? I saw UK was yesterday...

I wouldn't read too much into that. Sales aren't even across the board...for example, if most of the 54% of unreported vendors were Walmart stores, that wouldn't help Pearl Jam's figures much at all.worldwithyourheart wrote:after 46% reporting, it has moved nearly 107K. Put another way, when it was 31% reporting their numbers were something like 20k. So it's non-interpretable.

This is RM. There is no such thing as non-interpretable.McParadigm wrote:I wouldn't read too much into that. Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
I'm not sure if he reports his sales weekly, or if he just hands in an end-of-year report. All those "12 CDs for a penny!" places used to do it that way...they seem like the closest analogous scenario to what he does.stip wrote:do the numbers include lloyd dobbler?
