I enjoy his lower register so much more than his higher register
While not as powerful (for obvious age reasons) in his older years, he can certainly croon a lot better in a live setting than he could in the 90s. His range is still pretty incredible considering, but I have to agree I much prefer the lower register these days. Also agree with whoever said that ToTD should be revisited wholesale during the solo tour--one of my all time favorite albums.

Great vid, BTW.

I mean one of them was actually a banjo, not a guitar. Obviously then, it's going to sound different.

That banjo was begging to be picked.

I would have much rather seen them cover Cross the Road, Molina.

So there.

THat was quite lovely. Though, I agree with the critiques about the lack of feeling/emotion though. But I liked the interpretation.

I"m glad that they didn't pick the banjo. I remember thinking during it that it would sound like a damn hillbilly song.

Why didn't they double it with Times of Trouble?

i still havent seen the performance yet, but i wonder if they played a 2nd song after they went off the air, otherwise why have the banjo there if they werent gonna use it. im assuming it was just on a guitar stand sitting there

Well I mean at least he didn't giggle

Scott Avett did play the banjo on it, but he didn't use a more traditional plucking style that people tend to associate with banjo, especially in bluegrass music. Instead, he plays more of a strumming technique, sort of a variation off of the clawhammer technique. I don't play banjo, though, so someone else that does could better label it (not that there are going to be that many banjo aficionados around here).

I have a banjo, but I know absolutely nothing about strumming techniques.

That still gives more banjo expertise than 99% of RM. Congrats.

My guess is they will tape both performances on Thursday afternoon on their way from Philly to CT.
