two truths and a conspiracy:

Truths:
- Axelrod's commentary was correct, the entire red team platform has been Biden is too old to perform. A late-game replacement would cause havoc for them as they would need an actual plan.
- Significant parts of the government and media have been covering for Biden for some time now. It cannot be that this just started last night or he 'has a cold' or some nonsense like that. From his wife and core staffers to everyone who has interviewed him... they all must have known something was very wrong and chosen not to act.

Conspiracy:
- This was a 'mercy kill' of Biden's campaign. An intentional fail to create the momentum needed to do what they should done months ago, replace him with someone 30 years younger who still has political runway in their career and can steer the party towards the more left-leaning platform the blue team assumes the majority of young folx want.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question because I don't follow this sh*t anymore, but on the Dem side if they really think Biden won't stand a chance would it be worth it to try and push Kamala and claim she's the best choice considering she's been the next in line the last 4 years? She may not stand a chance either, but no clue what the consensus has been on her as a VP.

Bammer doesn't like her, but that's just because she's not hot enough.

I’m trying to stay away from the horse race this year, but I don’t see how Biden stepping down (either from the presidency or just from the campaign) could amount to anything more than conceding the election at this point. If he were to have (or “have”) an acute medical episode that changed the course of the party, I think there’s a small chance things could turn out differently, but honestly it’s probably too late for that at this point, too.

That conspiracy may well be true, and LOL to anyone who seriously thinks the plan is to prop Harris up in his place. It’s going to be Gavin Newsome.

Seems like replacing him with any warm body would make a dem win more likely, not less. The possible candidates are terrible, but it's not like they have a high bar to get over.

I had long been of the opinion that a Democratic win was way more likely with Biden staying the course than a last minute replacement. That performance dropped me to near 50/50. Sure, a new person would have a hard time winning at this point, but would they have a harder time than Biden? Maybe not.

I think Biden's doing a good job as President. I think he can keep doing a good job as President.

I'm not convinced that he can survive a campaign against Trump.

When people say he's doing a good job, I assume they mean that whatever group of people behind the scenes that's really managing things is doing a good job.

We're essentially in regency, and have been for awhile.

Not that that's inherently a bad thing though. The machinery pretty much runs itself anyway.

Would never vote for Trump, but that was really poor from Biden. Looked 100 years old.

was this one of trumps sick burns his braindead idiot supporters love?

i don't think replacing biden at this point is going to help the blue team. it's going to look desprate and if they put in someone like newsome everyone is going to scream "radical!" b/c he's from california. if they are going to replace biden they should just bump harris up. she would dogwalk trump in a debate and may bate him into dropping a profanity or racists/sexist slur.

It’s obviously not an original burn, but it was pretty spot on.
