Hmmm word was that Eddie had Covid so maybe others in the band caught it too

Have a ticket for Barcelona but feel like it will not happen

Doesn't sound like it, they're cancelled without any word of plans to reschedule.

If the band keep touring, I'd expect they're not going to play internationally very often in future.

The ridiculous ticket prices has left them in difficult position with rescheduling. People are not going to rush out and get them again.

In recent pictures I thought Ed did not look steady and has aged a lot in the past 5 years. I wonder is this going to be it for Euro tours now? Maybe play some festivals but keep more contained.

I know it sounds cynical, but there's a part of me that wonders if, while someone is definitely sick, perhaps they're using it to back out of undersold shows and get the insurance claim covered.
Would line up with Eddie’s remarks about how making a profit is the priority for the band when touring.

Appears to be plenty of unsold tickets for the upcoming Barcelona shows, this is just the first night of two:

If I understand correctly, Jennifer Lopez did this recently, saying she had to cancel her tour for “family reasons” in the midst of poor ticket sales.

They would still make less in this scenario, though. They aren't coming out whole in any situation where there is a cancellation. The insurance can just bridge the gap.

I think that depends on how many tickets they sold, and how much merch they'd hope to sell based on attendance. Probably a sliding scale on this matter, from "still in the red" to "were able to call it a net wash."

You don’t just cancel a show going ‘fuck it insurance will cover it.’ Simply cos ticket sales aren’t where you want them to be. It will fuck up your next insurance bill.

The insurance premium for the next tour will be insane after this.
There genuinely is a bad dose of flu running riot in gb and Ireland. They caught it.
It’s nothing more sinister than that.

They're big enough that they get guaranteed fees to play shows. It's possible they get something else on top of that based on ticket sales but a band of their size/experience isn't playing anywhere without a fixed fee that at a minimum sets a floor.

Btw, I'm not sure if it's COVID or whatever but hopefully this is a wakeup call to Ed that he needs to take care of himself. He's getting older and there's something to be said here about taking a step back to see if he can still do these tours.

In her defense, Ben has already moved out (thanks again People!)
I am well aware of the Lopez-Afflecks’ current issues, but I am sure that was not an unknown when the tour was scheduled.

Except that, the Covid vaccine does not prevent infection of course….
