What a bummer. I thought they were really on fire during the May west coast run.

I was the first one to call 2024 the band’s final tour. You can look it up.

There genuinely is a bad dose of flu running riot in gb and Ireland. They caught it.
It’s nothing more sinister than that.
Aw, that’s cute. You think they’re gonna tour after this year.

That's not how insurance works.

It’s their third or fourth time cancelling in Europe over the last 5 or 6 years.

Now look at the ticket prices for this tour.

It’s exactly how insurance works.

You literally said “for the next tour.” Since they’re still in the middle of the current tour, the next one would have to be after this year.

Doesn't mean there will be one? personally think it would be challenging, at best, for them after this. Unless they went to cities they havent played in years.

They still havent made up the shows they cancelled in various cities since 2018/19.
lot of people there really pissed off with them over that too.

they should pick a city or two in furture and just do mini residencies. 10 or 15 shows. let people come to them, while theres still enough people will travel to see them. And that number is dwindling rapidly by the looks of it. So get on it now and announce it.

“Thank you for purchasing tickets for all 15 shows of Pearl Jam’s residency at MSG’s The Sphere, brought to you by Geritol. We’ve had an amazing time busting out rarities like ‘Even Flow (Music Video Edit)’ and ‘Betterman (Live)’ during the first two shows, which consisted of 14-song main sets and a 3-song encore. We know how much of a commitment it is to reserve a 25-night, non-refundable stay at an overpriced resort casino (meals not included); to bank vacation time for two years so that you don’t lose your job; to decide which of your children to sell to the local Amazon warehouse; and to make this band your entire personality, to the detriment of every other element of your life. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, illness has struck the singer band, and despite everyone’s best efforts, the remainder of the band’s residency at MSG’s The Sphere, sponsored by Geritol, has been cancelled. We hear you and understand your frustration, especially since the lead singer someone in the band still smokes in the Year Of Our Lord 2025. Yes, the band could have played smaller venues in more cities, with dates spread out a little bit more, so that not so many people had to travel, but this is what dime wanted, guys. What else could we have done? Refunds will be issued at point of original purchase, which for this tour was only Jordan Marsh locations, just make sure to bring your original receipt that was printed on rice paper using invisible ink, as well as your mother’s original birth certificate in an envelope sealed with the blood of a giant panda. This message also serves as a reminder that your Ten Club membership auto-renews next week, and to let you know that that merch you ordered is going to be sent to the apartment you lived in 13 years ago, even though you changed your address in your account just as we instructed you to. Thank you, Jamily! Pearl Jam night at the Albuquerque Motor Speedway will go on as scheduled.”

Dime makes a good point, the bands inability to make tour dates in recent years is probably one of the biggest contributing factors to the ticket prices. It’s not like the band can say “yeah we’re getting killed on the insurance because we can’t be trusted to show up for our dates”

This is no way addresses how they're going to handle poster sales for the cancelled events. :(

This started in "Mike Judge could have written this" territory. And that's high praise. Jamiocracy.

I just can't imagine that prior cancellation drive the prices up, not unless there's some demonstrable negligence on the band's part. If you have an auto claim covered, you don't see a surcharge unless you're at fault, so why would this be different?

I did find this article that speaks very specifically to this situation, even talking about Pearl Jam's cancellations from the last tour:
https://www.insurancejournal.com/magazi ... 714319.htm

I then asked ChatGPT how much insurance costs, and it says typically the premiums are 2-4% of the covered amount, though it couldn't provide a clear citation for this.

So what's 85% of PJ's typical concert haul (the 85% figure is noted in the above link)? That would give some estimation of how much they're paying for insurance, and the extent to which that is possibly impacting ticket prices.
Yeah, but insurance companies also can raise your rates for any number of things that they determine make you a riskier insured to carry.
