Is this it? It's really nice. I'd never heard it before either. Some fancier guitar playing and cool fretless bass sound. I don't hear a sax though
Definitely sounds like EV's version is modeled after this one. It includes the "why don't you hold me..." part which isn't on the original. One of KD's "cover of a cover"

The Townshend version is flat out bad I’m afraid.
The original is the best and untouchable. Ed’s take in tags is usually always pretty great. This is sweet especially in the montage as it’s in the bear.
Go and listen to split enz for more of that kinda vibe as the original tho.
I got you and save it for later were always twins in a way for me.

Alas, the 80s killed the saxophone for me. Much like it killed highly compressed guitar. I listened to Another Brick in the Wall for the first time, I suddenly realized that every guitar lick in every 80s movie was flat out theft, but by then it was too late and it was Pink Floyd who sounded cliched. Victims of their own influence.Ms Harmless wrote:it works well, be open-mindedlvc wrote:There's sax? So glad I stopped listening before that.liebzz wrote:Who is playing sax?

I also only listen to Pete Townshend songs for “research.”tragabigzanda wrote:good research 'snatch! I did not know that. Ed's love for nostalgia is very weird to me.

You’ve never heard Baker Street.
One of the great one hit wonders of the 80s and an all time classic.
And it’s engine it’s a saxophone playing in the wrong key originally

I heard a live version of Let My Love Open the door from Pete one day that also included a Save it for later tag.

Hold up. Gerry Rafferty is not a one hit wonder. Listen to “Right Down the Line,” Dime.dimejinky99 wrote:lvc wrote:Alas, the 80s killed the saxophone for me. I’d be fine with PJ doing that. I’ve wanted to get LMLOTD since ‘95.Strat wrote:I heard a live version of Let My Love Open the door from Pete one day that also included a Save it for later tag.

I wasn’t aware there was a video for the original song. And it’s so innocent and so sweet. They just got all their mates in and kids from the nearest art college
It’s a lovely thing

I feel it worked well in the show but if it had been worked in to some scenes and not just played flat would have been infinitely better.RockPusher wrote:Really love it in the show. Re: Save it for Later - EV
I knew it was Townsend’s version Ed’s been doing all this time, and really wanted him to make this cover (officially). And it’s here and it’s so underwhelming, I can’t take it. I’d rather the Townsend cover.bodysnatcher wrote:Listened to this finally. At first I appreciated that it wasn't an exact replica of the original, which was nice. Not really my thing, i much prefer the original.
But then i noticed that Pete Townsend used to cover this and released a version on a live album, which i had no idea. So I thought, "ah ok, no wonder Ed cover this, that tracks". So i listened, and Ed's cover is basically a cover of Pete's cover, including the sax. Not as original of an interpretation as I thought.
Kind of one of those irrelevant releases for me, it's fun that it exists I suppose. Production is nice though.
