Maybe that's how it is in the books but feels like a lack of imagination on the show runners part or maybe I'm just cranky today.
Our experience of rapidly advancing technology is likely the exception, not the rule. And I think the general idea is that Dune's empirium is ancient and decrepit, and tech is strictly regulated if not outright banned, so things wouldn't change much.
