Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
Anyway, unrelated: I’ve been spinning the debut albums by Queens of the Stone Age and The Mars Volta a lot lately and I kept thinking how killer the bass is on both of them, but that I didn’t know who was playing it. So I looked it up. Probably common knowledge, but news to me: Josh Homme played bass himself on the QOTSA album and Flea (!!!) played almost all of the bass on De-Loused. Kind of explains why those two albums have a little something special that was never recaptured afterward.

That’s a real shame. It’s always a drag when fun people turn out to be lunatics.dimejinky99 wrote:McParadigm wrote:Currently fascinated by Fredhead, Right Said Fred’s comeback masterpiece.

Still, it can’t take away the fact that they made a song called lovers.com, said the words “lovers dot com” IN the lyrics, and still made a banger.

I didn't know that was J-Ho on bass until recently. I thought Nick Oliveri was there from the beginning. How embarrassing.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Anyway, unrelated: I’ve been spinning the debut albums by Queens of the Stone Age and The Mars Volta a lot lately and I kept thinking how killer the bass is on both of them, but that I didn’t know who was playing it. But Flea on De-Loused? I feel like this was a massive talking point for years. I'm surprised this detail eluded you. (My Flea goof is not realizing he was in Atoms For Peace. A surprising lineup, that.)

I think the first time I heard of The Mars Volta was some MTV Latin America news piece goofily presenting it as Flea's side projectEllo Sailor wrote:I didn't know that was J-Ho on bass until recently. Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
"No One Knows" might be my most over-listened-to song ever. I gauge that by how enamoured I was by it upon discovery, my full understanding of how incredible the performances are, and my complete and utter indifference at the prospect of never hearing it again.

My all-time most played song on last.fm is "Web in Front" by Archers of Loaf. Kind of surprising. I guess I have it on a lot of playlists.

The question you actually asked is much harder to answer though

It was their "breakthrough" single. I have a similar relationship with "Today" by the Pumpkins. It's good but calm the fuck down people.

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
Maybe "Make Me Feel" by Janelle Monae? I played the living shit out of that thing when it came out, partly driven by the excitement that this song/single would be the one to finally make her a bona fide pop star. I still like it, but upon reflection it's a pretty standard blues-pop that borrows a bit much from Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel," a better song. I haven't listened to it in a long while and I'd be OK never hearing it again
