Anyway, unrelated: I’ve been spinning the debut albums by Queens of the Stone Age and The Mars Volta a lot lately and I kept thinking how killer the bass is on both of them, but that I didn’t know who was playing it. So I looked it up. Probably common knowledge, but news to me: Josh Homme played bass himself on the QOTSA album and Flea (!!!) played almost all of the bass on De-Loused. Kind of explains why those two albums have a little something special that was never recaptured afterward.

I didn't know that was J-Ho on bass until recently. I thought Nick Oliveri was there from the beginning. How embarrassing.

But Flea on De-Loused? I feel like this was a massive talking point for years. I'm surprised this detail eluded you. (My Flea goof is not realizing he was in Atoms For Peace. A surprising lineup, that.)

It was tricky to have Nick on the back cover maybe yes.

Back when I was first learning bass "Tire Me" and "Snakecharmer" were my favorites on Evil Empire. Super fun basslines. But in retrospect, you cannot beat "Bulls On Parade". I don't care if it's a single that I've heard a thousand times -- it's objectively the best song on this album. I won't be taking questions.
