The live disc that came with The Aeroplane Flies High reissue is pretty freaking amazing. It's worth it alone for the version of "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans" live.

Another reminder that when Smashing Pumpkins were on, they were REALLY ON.

Best. I love the contrast of nonchalant verse vocals and brutal guitar tones.

Listening to the copy of "Aeroplane" I just ordered off eBay--what a wonderful collection of music, it's been years since I've heard it all in one place and I don't know that ever appreciated this much of it. Not that I would necessarily want it that way, but edited down to one disc this could have easily been an album the equal of "Mellon Collie," if not "Siamese Dream." I completely disagree with the comments a few pages back about the "Tonight, Tonight" B-sides; "Rotten Apples" and "Medillia of the Grey Skies" are two of the best songs in this collection, and the rest of them are well-meaning trifles that appropriately echo the A-side. And I prefer Corgan's version of "My Blue Heaven" to any other I've heard.

Someone should make a comp out of the best bonus material from the reissues. (I've got my eye on Matt Reeder but anyone's work would be welcome.)

Actually I do really like "Rotten Apples" and "Medillia" but that's as far as I'll go. It's not the worst single of all time but it's easily the least impressive from the TAFH box.

I see that single/EP as a kind of foreshadowing of "Adore." It lacks the weight obviously but aesthetically it is definitely pointing down that road.

There is too glaring an absence of piano and processed beats for that to be anywhere near an accurate statement. It's merely a single with stripped back demos and acoustic tracks. Don't get too head of yourself there, chap.

I'm finishing up a 7-disc Smashing Pumpkins bootleg mix that I will torrent on ZOMB. It should be done within a week or two. That's why I haven't posted anything else in my "12 Days of Christmas" thread.

You've all been warned. This is going to be the greatest thing ever.

Hoping you can find it in your heart to post that beaut somewhere other than ZOMB, where my terrible ratio forbids me from downloading anything new. It sounds pretty mouthwatering. :)

mike garson gets a lot of grief for his keyboard wankery when he toured with the band, but those '98 versions of Tear i could listen to forever.

ah, copperplate, a font for the truly modern man.

Listening to this now after I did some very light EQ. So, so, so good. This thing is coming really soon now, friends. I want to say the ETA is Thursday but who knows.

Actually, the demo that comes from might be my favorite unreleased thing ever leaked to the internet. Check this out: http://zombtracker.the-zomb.com/details.php?id=38641

Fall 1992 - Chicago Studio [?]

Disc 1:

01. Quiet
02. Hello Kitty Kat (Kitty Kat)
03. Cherub Rock
04. Geek U.S.A. (Suicide Kiss)
05. Today
06. Disarm
07. Rocket
08. Spaceboy
09. Set the Ray to Jerry
10. Soma

Disc 2:

01. Whir (Whirl)
02. Meladori Magpie (Doorstep)
03. Pissant
04. Tulips
05. Blew Away
06. French Movie Theme
07. Hummer
08. Frail and Bedazzled
09. Glynis
10. She Says
11. Sweet Sweet
12. Mayonaise

This session resulted in a tape of Siamese Dream demos submitted to Virgin Records in 1992, called: "Quiet and Other Songs: A Collection of Songs for Album II."
Doorstep is an early version of Meladori Magpie and featured a full-band arrangement.
Suicide Kiss evolved into Geek USA.
Hello Kitty Kat was at this time simply titled Kitty Kat.
Set the Ray to Jerry is an early version of the song, full band electric, with a faster tempo and more aggresive sound.

And here's Doorstep:

I hoped so hard a better, cleaned-up or alternate take would make it to the Siamese Dream reissue. Even though it's the same thing as "Meladori Magpie", it's not - it's like an entirely different song. It's a half-step higher, fully electric and completely haunting.
