Which restaurant have you been to recently?

A father and daughter running it. Just a small cafe.

Last night, went to my first restaurant in a while. Just your kinda everyday pizza, burger and beer spot. I met my cousin there with her 3 young kids. And my god was it so bad. Food, service, everything. At least it was overpriced. Afterward I was just full on spite and regret.

Mrs. Bam and I simply decided not to go out to dinner last Saturday because … yeah. All this. We made smoothies at home instead.bodysnatcher wrote:Last night, went to my first restaurant in a while. In a few weeks we have another weekend without the kids and had a hotel booked to celebrate our anniversary, go out to dinner, the whole thing. We cancelled and got matching paddleboards instead.

An audiologist in Adelaide is building an app where you can search for restaurants by noise level - genius!
Open concept restaurants have terrorized us for too long.

Re: Which restaurant have you been to recently?
FINALLY made it to Gage & Tollner last night for our 18th anniversary.
Reservation was for 5:30. We arrived early and got a seat at the Sunken Harbor Club bar upstairs. I've been on a tear recently about how every goddamn restaurant in this city thinks they can improve upon classic cocktails, and most of them just ruin the original recipe. The biggest offender in this regard is the Old Fashioned. It's so en vouge right now to have a "twist" on the Old Fashioned. I hate it because it creates a danger in ordering the classic version. Inevitably, they bring you their own custom Frankenstein version even if you just order the OG.
Anyway... SHC just shut me right the fuck up. Because their spin on the Old Fashioned was one of the best cocktails I've ever consumed in my life. Scotch instead of Bourbon. Honey instead of simple. A little bit of barrel aged rum. It knocked me out.
Took our drinks down to the main dining area at 5:30. They sat us in a plush booth. One of the most comfortable seats I've had a place in Brooklyn in a long time. The atmosphere was outstanding. Old place. Felt like stepping back in time.
Everything we ate was perfection, but especially the pumpkin soup!
Anyway, it's expensive, but I can't recommend it enough. As far as "steak houses" in NYC go, this is maybe the top of the list. And if you can't swing the food or can't get a res or whatever, the bar upstairs is still worth a stop. What a great night.

Yessir!
Opened with:
Pacific Fleet Old Fashioned (for me) and a happy hour Whiskey drink for my wife (I forget exactly what it was called; it's on their happy hour menu so it isn't listed online, but it was awesome).
Starters:
Manhattan to drink for me; Sazerac for her
Parker House Rolls
Pumpkin Soup
Seared Foie Gras
Glass of Grenache for me; Glass of Cabernet for her
Main:
French Fries
Creamed Spinach
Bone-in Ribeye
Dessert:
Black Forrest Sundae
Armagnac by the glass

This was L’Encantada Armagnac XO, if you're hunting for a good bottle.
Outstanding and perfect for an after dinner, digestif.

I know Foie Gras isn't for everyone, but this was also some of the best I've ever had. Like, the only FG I've had that was better was in Paris.
Ditto the creamed spinach (which is weird, but I'm telling you, we go to a lot of steak houses in the city and this is the best).

I'll check it out next time we're there..I love a good creamed spinach but I'll be honest that seared foie gras is never on my radar..cold only is my preference ...and I can eat it at about 1 pound per hour

I feel you. Like I said, not for everyone. But this was outstanding. Especially with all the other ingredients and the cherries.... hmmmmm.doug rr wrote:I'll check it out next time we're there..I love a good creamed spinach but I'll be honest that seared foie gras is never on my radar..cold only is my preference ...and I can eat it at about 1 pound per hour
