Presumed Innocent (1987 book, 1990 film, 2024 show)

Post by Ensign9 »

4 episodes into the show and its mostly solid. I have a feeling it’s about to go off the deep end into crazy town but it’s holding my attention for now. Gyllenhaal is too young for the role relative to the actress playing his wife.

I rewatched the movie last night. Great cast and acting performances (with a couple exceptions) but it looks super dated and gets a little hamfisted. And, while
Spoiler: show
Bonnie Bedilia gives a great performance during her monologue at the end,
I think the movie would’ve played much better with a more ambiguous ending.

It’s been ages since I read the book (and there are apparently at least two sequels) but I just picked up a copy and will reread.

Is your title correct? Was the book actually written in the 11th century?

I am also watching this show and super enjoying it. I did not know this was actually a movie previously so I have no connection to the film and never read the book. So, i have found this to be quite thrilling and incredibly acted. I know jakey boy gets a bad rap for some reason, but I think he's pretty fantastic. I have no idea how the story ends so I'm having fun, though some article hinted that maybe this show will go a different route.

The only thing that bothers me is the DA's fucking accent. Obnoxious !

Would like to watch the movie too!

Only onto the third episode of this. Started watching it with my wife, but she said Jake Gyllenhaal's character annoyed my wife too much, so now she doesn't want to continue with it.

Like Strat - the only character that anooys me is the DA. He'd be fine if he didn't speak

The show is getting a little weird for my taste. This latest episode (5) also felt like filler required to satisfy an episode quantity commitment versus being necessary to tell the story.

Really enjoying this. Definitely a doozy of an ending! Curious how that will play out. Seems like the defense had their day in the sun but i assume that will change drastically next episode.

Nice. I was very concerned that they would cliff hang this season whilst reading that.

Glad to see it will wrap up

I am 100% sure that I never saw the original movie, but I think I may have had the ending spoiled. I vaguely remember a podcast (something like The Rewatchables) talking about Harrison Ford movies and they may have discussed the ending of this. We shall see.

After having caught up, I’m more convinced than ever that I do remember hearing this, and that the show is going down the same path. It’d be wild if they had a different conclusion.

I’ve heard this has been renewed for Season 2, though I’m not sure if it’s going to be a new cast and characters, and I’m not reading anything about it until this is through.

The tone and pace of the series reminds me a lot of Apple TV’s Hijack; if you like this (especially the way it’s getting more zany as it goes along), you’d probably like Hijack, too.

I might have missed it, but I don’t think I did: was it weird that Barbara made a Cheers reference to the bartender but they didn’t really dwell on the fact that his name is Cliff?

This show is amazing. Finale is going to be gonzo-bananas.
