Don't get me wrong, that live version sounds great, and it's a pretty good song. I like it and would enjoy it at a show (and man they sounded so good in 1998 like how do they sound so amazing LIVE??)

But if you think this is the peak of Pearl Jam I feel like you've listened to way too much Pearl Jam lol. It's not even the best song on its own album.

Brain of J is a great song, but I have no idea what's so special about that Maui version that gets posted every now and then. I don't think this is one that has ever really been a live standout based on the actual performances.

It's a really good song, but by winning a march madness a plausible case can be made that it is now officially Pearl Jam's most overrated

I loved this song so much when it came out, that I made a full stop action animation video for it, starring all WWF action figures playing as the band and crowd :haha:. I need to digitize it soon or it will be lost forever. I'll post it here if I ever get it done.

I love it just as much now. When I think PJ album openers, this one's near the very top. I think Scared of Fear is their best opener since Brain of J. Only Once and Go are better, arguably Last Exit is just as good.

It's the guitars in the Maui version that do it for me. A standout PJ moment of bliss for me.

You have two weeks to post it or I'm banning you until it is done. We need to see it.

Good video, good sound, good performance, Jack Irons, Stone in a hat - what’s not to like?

Eddie's voice on this song in '98 was unreal.

I’ve never forgotten how much I liked this song on first listen the day Yield came out. It was the sound of Pearl Jam rising from the ashes of No Code.

At the time, for me it did. I came around to No Code and recognized its greatness soon after. If I hadn’t loved Yield as much as I did I might never have fully appreciated No Code.

for you and lots of people. yield was where ‘return to form’ entered the lexicon

That was definitely how I felt. I'd found Vitalogy to be a mixed bag upon release, I had high expectations for No Code off the back of Merkinball but was left underwhelmed again. And then Yield absolutely blew my socks off. I would have unquestionably mentioned the phrase "return to form" to friends at the time. Years later and Yield is their pinnacle IMO.

I still don't get what's so great about Yield. It's good but doesn't stand out as exceptional to me, especially compared to No Code which is one of their more interesting albums. There are songs people LOVE off this album like Brain of J and Faithfull and I have no idea why those songs get loved so much with such an amazing catalog Pearl Jam has. They are decent songs but they are not close to top-tier to me, I just don't get it! I do love Given to Fly and Do the Evolution of course, and All Those Yesterdays too. And I enjoy Pilate, Low Light, In Hiding. But still.

I remember it taking about a week for most of Yield to click for me but once it did, watch out. Ten and Yield are the two albums that completely took over my life during the first couple months after me first hearing them.
