I feel like the show wants us to feel very sympathetic for Sydney but it's impossible, she's completely insufferable.

FX’s highly acclaimed, highly anticipated dysfunctional kitchen/family drama “The Bear” returned to Hulu yesterday, June 26, to much online fanfare (fans were binge-watching the series immediately). Created by Christopher Storer and co-showrun by Storer and Joanna Calo, the two sole directors on the series thus far aside from a Ramy Youseff (“Ramy”) directorial guest spot in season two and a new slate of directors scheduled for season three, earlier this year, it was reported that “The Bear” was scheduled to shoot season three and four back to back.
...
But that ambitious plan didn’t really happen as planned. For one, sources told The Playlist recently that the plan was scrapped as scripts weren’t ready in time.
And earlier this week, the cast essentially confirmed as much. We attended a press conference for “The Bear,” which included the aforementioned cast members plus Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson, and we put the question straight to the cast. Did seasons three and four shoot back to back, and if so, when will we expect season 4?
The cast played a little cagey, with Allen White saying, “We did something like that.” and Edebiri added, “Yeah, a little version of it, sort of. But not exactly.”
“Not exactly,” White added. “Is that helpful for journalism?” Edebiri quipped. “You’ll have to find out,” Abby Elliott concluded.
FX confirmed the cast’s statements: seasons three and four weren’t shot back to back, but some elements were shot in advance. However, how much of that is other than “a little” is unknown.
We’ve heard season 4 will resume production in early 2025, but that all might depend on the availability of the cast (though FX had no comment on this or any other aspect) ...

Re: The Bear (FX/Hulu)
Chris Storer, the Creator and show runner said the original plan was 3 seasons. FX somehow convinced him to do 4. Not sure why he agreed, he hasn't spoken about it publicly yet as far as I know.
As such S3 & S4 we're shot at the same time. This was to accommodate the move from 3 to 4 seasons as well as the actor's schedules.
Doesn't mean there won't be/haven't been reshoots or filler shoots.

Re: The Bear (FX/Hulu)
I was first to watch it and say it, it felt like a season just broken in half. it ended on what felt like a turning point mid season.
i think the studio making them break it into two to make it four seasons is why a lot of this season just does feel like very stretched out and filler (i hate that word too)
whenever it comes i just hope they stick the landing. I cant see any good outcomes for Carmys vision and the restaurant itself, unless that final ep and the bad reviews and his uncle pulling out, is all just misdirect.

Re: The Bear (FX/Hulu)
Riche said they shot the two of them not in order so sometimes they would shot a scene from S4 and then a scene from 3 and they had to remember what was going on with the characters
but also they just shot a bunch of stuff the actors didnt know where they going to use it and he sometimes is surprised to see when he sees the episodes.
Im starting the series again. S3 was very good.

Every interview with Ebon about the show is solid gold. I always love hearing him talk about the process of making The Bear. You can see why it's so fucking good.

Comedy-adjacent at least. I don't think the tag is unwarranted.

Re: The Bear (FX/Hulu)
I’m fairly sure there’s a combination of factors—it used to be that you were automatically classified as a comedy if your episodes were under a half an hour, but that rule went away a few years ago. I’m not positive, but I think networks may get to decide where to slot shows (within reason). So it may be classified there just out of habit or maybe because the creators feel like they have a better chance to win, or they have more in common with shows that have won in recent years. A more “traditional” network comedy hasn’t won in over ten years, so the old categories sure do seem outdated.
FWIW The Bear had tons of sitcom-y elements this year, maybe more than in recent years.
